Purpose: This study attempted to determine whether serial measurements of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin levels can be used for prediction of prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) in patients with pesticide intoxication. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 36 pesticide-intoxicated patients who were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and received mechanical ventilation for >72 hours between January 2010 and December 2011. Patients were divided into two groups: patients on mechanical ventilation for ≥15 days (PMV group; n=9) and patients on mechanical ventilation for <15 days (non-PMV group; n=27). Clinical and laboratory parameters were measured at presentation to the emergency department (ED). CRP and albumin levels were measured at presentation and thereafter for nine days. Results: A higher Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score, a longer time to reach peak CRP level (CRP duration), and a larger decrease in albumin levels (ΔAlbumin) were observed in the PMV group, compared with the non-PMV group. Of these parameters, duration of continuous increasing CRP levels for >4 days [odds ratio (OR), 2.06; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.10- 3.86] and ΔAlbumin >2.0 g/dL (OR, 7.81; 95% CI, 1.04- 58.67) showed an independent association with PMV. Conclusion: Serial measurements of serum CRP and albumin levels can be used for identification of patients at risk for PMV. Increase in serum CRP level for more than four consecutive days and decrease in albumin level greater than 2.0 g/dL could discriminate PMV patients from non-PMV patients.

An 11-year-old child presented with left hemiparesis and a seizure caused by fibromuscular dysplasia of the right internal carotid artery with cerebral infarction is presented. On conventional angiography, the authors found the classical ‘beaded’lesions. These pathognomic changes were most important to diagnosis. On brain single-photon emission computed tomography, we found the impaired vascular reserve of right basal ganglia, frontal and temporal area. We tried an antiplatelet agent and an encephaloduroarterio-synangiosis on the right hemisphere. In order to study the effects of Sihogayonggolmoryo-tang gagambang on hypertension and hyperlipidemia, experimental studies were performed on normal rats, SHR and on hyperlipidemia rats induced by 2% cholesterol fed-diet and triton WR-1339. The blood pressure, heart rate, and the changes of total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol were observed. 1. After per os medication in normal rats, the blood pressure was density dependently and significantly decreased. 2. After per os medication in SHR, the blood pressure was significantly decreased only in the high density-treated group. 3. After per os medication in normal rats and SHR, the heart rate was not decreased. 4. After per os medication in hyperlipidemia rats induced by 2% cholesterol fed-diet, only in the high density-treated group, the total cholesterol(p<0.01), triglyceride(p<0.05), LDL-cholesterol(p<0.01) was significantly decreased and HDL-cholesterol(p<0.05) was significantly increased. 5. After per os medication in hyperlipidemia rats induced by Triton WR-1339, in the high density-treated group, the total cholesterol(p<0.01), triglyceride(p<0.01) and LDL-cholesterol was significantly decreased. According to the results, Sihogayonggolmoryo-tang gagambang showed significant decreasing effects on blood pressure and hyperlipidemia and these effects are similar to those of many records and it could be applied effectively to hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
Effect of a SMES in Power Distribution Network With PV System and PBEVs

<P>This paper analyzes the effect of superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) to improve the stability of the distribution network with a photovoltaic (PV) system and plug-in battery electric vehicles (PBEVs). The PBEVs are expected to play a major role in making the transport system. The charge of their batteries by the penetration of PBEVs results in an increase of peak demand. Also, the output power fluctuation from a large-scale PV system due to the weather conditions often causes instability of the system. To handle these problems, the SMES is applied in this paper. To analyze the effects of SMES on the system stability, several important factors such as the capacity of SMES, its regulation for grid-connection, power reserve margin, the charging scenario of battery, the output power fluctuation of the PV system, and the seasonal load demands, etc., are considered with field measurement data. The performances of the SMES are evaluated and verified with the PSCAD/EMTDC based simulation test.</P>

In this article, the aim is at evaluating the knowledge level of the foodbome disease by developing a reasonable survey questionnaire model. Each questions of the questionnaire is made up to check the knowledge covering the several fields of materials related to the foodbome disease. The pilot survey is implemented to evaluate the validity of questionnaire. Each question in questionnaire is scored to get the quantitative measure of the foodbome disease knowledge by converting the total score into 100 points.

Korea’s agricultural land is constantly being reduced. The reasons for this are due to the change of agricultural profitability and the policy conditions. The reduction of agricultural land in 2010 showed a decline trend by 14.4 % of paddy fields and 1.2% of uplands compared to areas from 2000. These reductions were mainly due to switch rice paddy fields into upland or greenhouse facility cultivation because of low profitability of rice products compared to farm products. In addition, the permit system of agricultural areas was relaxed in switching paddy fields and this accelerated the reduction of agricultural land. For this reason, more than 1% of agricultural land area has been reduced every year for last five years. Moreover, indiscreet fill and cover materials such as construction wastes were used in agricultural lands and caused land contamination which threatened foundation as sustainable agricultural lands. For these reasons, it is a desperate situation to conserve good agricultural lands. However, the standards of transported soils, filling soils and cutting soils in the Agricultural Land Act are qualitative and have a problem of causing complaints. Therefore, the following criteria (proposals) are proposed in the Agricultural Land Act; ① Use the proper soils for crops (criterion), ② Soil components and amounts should be proper as transported soils (range), and ③ Prohibiting usage of improper earth rocks or recycled aggregates in case of filling soils (kinds). The presented criteria (proposals) suggest following; ① Use physio-chemically proper soils for crops (criterion), ② In case of transported soils, ⅰ, exclude potential acid sulphate soils, ⅱ, gravel content sould be less than 15%, and ⅲ, Heavy metals and other contaminants should be less than the soil contamination warning limit from the Ministry of Environments, ③ In case of filling soils, 13 kinds of recycled wastes specified in the Wastes Control Act should not be used as filling soils, ④ Practice soil conservation technology in case of sloping areas, and ⑤ Follow proper fertilizer application standards for maturing paddy fields and uplands when cutting soils.

1990년대 이후 우리나라 벤처기업의 연구가 급증하며, 벤처기업의 성공요인, 성공 및 실패기업의 사례분석, 성장단계별 전략요인 등 벤처기업에 관한 연구주제의 폭이 점차 다양화되고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 선행연구들은 특정 부문별 성공요인이나 효과를 검토함으로써 각 요인별 상호간의 관계나 또는 기업의 성장단계별 제 영향요인에 대한 고찰이 세밀하게 조명되지 못했다는 한계가 있다. 이에 따라서 본 연구는 선행 연구들을 토대로 벤처기업의 성과에 영향을 미치는 제 요인들을 추출하고, 이를 토대로 기업의 성장 단계별 핵심 요인들을 제시함으로써 벤처기업의 성장단계별로 각 요인에 따라 기업이 중점을 두어야 할 요소들이 무엇인지를 상호 복합적으로 검토하여 보았다. 연구결과, 창업기에는 창업자의 일에 대한 의욕과 자율성 및 현시장의 구매자 집중도가 중요한 고려 요인이었고, 성장기에는 기업의 규모 및 현 시장과의 마케팅능력의 조화가 요구되었으며, 성숙기에는 제품라인과 시장과의 일치성 및 품질우위전략 등이 핵심요인인 것으로 나타났다.

Background: Upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) in the patients treated in intensivecare unit (ICU) is associated with high rebleeding and mortality rate. The aim of this study was to assess clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes in ICU patients with non-variceal UGIB (NVUGIB) compared with non-ICU patients. Methods: 829 patients with symptom or sign of UGIB underwent endoscopy in Severance Hospital from January 2013 to April 2014. Among them, 37 ICU patients and 287non-ICU patients with NVUGIB were included. Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes including success rate of endoscopic hemostasis, the rate of rebleeding and mortality were investigated and compared with of non-ICU patients. Results: The mean age of ICU and non-ICU patients was 66.1 and 64.1 years (p=ns). Patients in the ICU had more comorbidities than those in the non-ICU (1.46 vs 1.07 p=0.008) Rebleeding rate (24.3% (9/37) vs 11.4% (33/287), p=0.037) and NVUGIB related mortality rate (8.1% (3/37) vs 1.0% (3/287), p=0.021) of ICU patients were signifi cantly higher than those of non-ICU patients. The percentage of patients receiving more than 3 units of red blood cells was higher in ICU group compared with non-ICU group (85.3% vs 46.2%, p<0.0001). Meanwhile, success rate of endoscopic hemostasis (92.6% vs 94.1%, p=0.671) was not signifi cantly different. In addition, mean interval between initial bleeding and rebleeding of ICU patients was signifi cantly shorter than that of non-ICU patients (1.8±0.9 day vs 3.5±3.7 days, p=0.029). Conclusions: Despite similar success rate of endoscopic hemostasis, rebleeding and NVUGIB related mortality rate were signifi cantly higher and interval between initial bleeding and rebleeding was shorter in ICU patients. Close monitoring is essential and preemptive endoscopic surveillance may be necessary to reduce rebleeding and mortality rate in ICU setting.
