A Study of Suppliers' Participation in Private Exchanges: Focusing on MRO Markets

Vol.9 No.4

Many B2B electronic markets (EMs) are struggling to survive because they failed to attract enough participants. Thus reaching critical mass of participants is one of the key success factors for various types of EMs. The main purpose of this study is to investigate factors that lead MRO (maintenance, repair, and operating) suppliers to participate in private exchanges (PE), the buy-side EM. This paper introduces the characteristics of the PE according to the classification schemes introduced in previous studies about EM types. Literature is reviewed on suppliers’ adoption of inter-organizational information systems focusing on EDI adoptions issues. Data analysis based on incomplete contract theory and the social exchange theory is then presented. The results of this study show that the number of suppliers and subsidy are factors that influence suppliers' participation in PEs. Nonsignificant results relating to trust imply that suppliers who are invited to participate in a PE do not expect their off-line relationships with the buyer to be transferred to the PE.

      • Molecular characterization and expression analysis of IκB from Haliotis discus discus

        Kasthuri, S.R.,Whang, I.,Navaneethaiyer, U.,Lim, B.S.,Choi, C.Y.,Lee, J. Academic Press 2013 Fish & shellfish immunology Vol.34 No.6

Innate immune system relies on the recognition of pathogen associated molecular patterns present in the microbes by the pattern recognition receptors leading to the activation of signaling cascade and subsequent synthesis of cytokines. NF-κB is a major stimulus activated transcription factor, which regulates the expression of a diverse array of genes. IκB is an inhibitor of NF-κB, retaining NF-κB in an inactive state in the cytoplasm. In this study, we have reported the characterization of first abalone IκB (HdIκB). The cDNA possessed an ORF of 1200 bp coding for a protein of 400 amino acids with molecular mass of 45 kDa and isoelectric point of 4.7. HdIκB protein possessed a conserved phosphorylation site 58DSGIFS63 in the N-terminal region, six ankyrin repeats, and a PEST sequence in the C-terminal region. A casein kinase II phosphorylation site could also be observed in the PEST sequence. Constitutive expression of HdIκB revealed its physiological significance since NF-κB is known to be activated by various stimuli. Elevated expression of HdIκB transcripts could be observed in abalones challenged with various mitogens and live microbes. This novel characterization of abalone IκB would further be a positive approach in the affirmation of evolutionary conservation and significance of this protein as a repressor/inhibitor of a pleiotropic transcription factor like NF-κB.

Development of an antibody-based diagnostic method for the identification of Bemisia tabaci biotype B

        Baek, J.H.,Lee, H.J.,Kim, Y.H.,Lim, K.J.,Lee, S.H.,Kim, B.J. Academic Press 2016 Pesticide biochemistry and physiology Vol.131 No.-

<P>The whitefly Bemisia tabaci is a very destructive pest. B. tabaci is composed of various morphologically undistinguishable biotypes, among which biotypes B and Q, in particular, draw attention because of their wide distribution in Korea and differential potentials for insecticide resistance development. To develop a biotypespecific protein marker that can readily distinguishes biotypes B from other biotypes in the field, we established an ELISA protocol based on carboxylesterase 2 (COE2), which is more abundantly expressed in biotypes B compared with Q. Recombinant COE2 was expressed, purified and used for antibody construction. Polydonal antibodies specific to B. tabaci COE2 [anti-COE2 pAb and deglycosylated anti-COE2 pAb (DG anti-COE2 pAb)] revealed a 3-9-fold higher reactivity to biotype B COE2 than biotype Q COE2 by Western blot and ELISA analyses. DG anti-COE2 pAb exhibited low non-specific activity, demonstrating its compatibility in diagnosing biotypes. Western blot and ELISA analyses determined that one of the 11 field populations examined was biotype B and the others were biotype Q suggesting the saturation of biotype Q in Korea. DG anti-COE2 pAb discriminates B. tabaci biotypes B and Q with high specificity and accuracy and could be useful for the development of a B. tabaci biotype diagnosis kit for on-site field applications.

For LS emission angles of 47 α fragments and 537 single-charged shower particles, produced by the N_h (the number of heavyprongs)=1 interactions of 14.6 A GeV^28Si nuclei in the nuclear emulsion, the distribution of the parameter exp(γ-η_b) is well expressed by dN=exp[a+χ{exp(γ-η_b)d{exp(γ-η_b)}with χ=-0.052±0.011 for αfragments and χ=-0.141±0.015 for p 'fragments', where the pseudorapidity of secondaries γ=arctanh(cosθ)=-ln tan(θ/2) and the rapidity of incident heavy ions, η_b=3.445.

      • Characterization of a wheat mutant missing low-molecular-weight glutenin subunits encoded by the B-genome

        Lee, J.Y.,Kang, C.S.,Beom, H.R.,Jang, Y.R.,Altenbach, S.B.,Lim, S.H.,Kim, Y.M.,Park, C.S. Academic Press 2017 Journal of cereal science Vol.73 No.-

<P>DH2O, a new wheat mutant missing low-molecular weight glutenin subunits encoded by the Glu-B3 locus, was discovered among double haploid lines obtained from a cross between the Korean wheat cultivars Keumkang and Olgeuru. Absence of the Glu-B3 LMW-GS proteins was determined by one-dimensional gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and confirmed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DGE) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). The deletion of Glu-B3 genes was also demonstrated using allele specific DNA markers. Basic agronomic traits, protein content, dough mixing properties and bread loaf volume of DH2O and parental wheat cultivars were evaluated in field-grown wheat over a two year period. This mutant is a valuable resource for understanding the function of individual LMW-GS alleles or genes at the Glu-B3 locus using either breeding or biotechnology approaches. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. Influences of Enzyme Complex Supplementation on Growth, Ileal and Apparent Fecal Digestibility and Morphology of Small Intestine in Pigs

        Kim, B.G.,Tian, J.Z.,Lim, J.S.,Kil, D.Y.,Jeon, H.Y.,Chung, Y.K.,Kim, Y.Y. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2004 Animal Bioscience Vol.17 No.12

A total of 140 weaning pigs were used to determine the effects of digestive enzyme supplementation to corn-soybean meal diets on growth performance, physiological changes of small intestine, microorganisms and pH in the gastrointestinal tract. Two kinds of enzyme complex (A, B) were used in this experiment. Pigs were allotted in a completely random design (CRD) to five replicates with four pigs per pen. Diets and water were provided for ad libitum consumption. Treatments included 1) Control: without enzyme supplementation, 2) Enzyme A 0.05%, 3) Enzyme A 0.10%, 4) Enzyme A 0.15%, 5) Enzyme B 0.05%, 6) Enzyme B 0.10%, 7) Enzyme B 0.15% in the diets. A total of 24 crossbred barrows 25.78${\pm}$0.55 kg BW fitted with simple ileal T-cannulas were used to evaluate the effect the enzyme addition on the nutrient digstibility. Pigs were allotted 4 treatments (No enzyme, enzyme A 0.05%, enzyme A 0.1%, enzyme A 0.15%), 6 replicates according to a completely random design (CRD). Another digestibility trial was followed for enzyme complex B. Twenty pigs, average 31.92${\pm}$0.37 kg BW, fitted with simple ileal T-cannulas for digestibility trial. Neither enzyme A nor enzyme B affected on fecal or ileal digestibility of dry matter, gross energy, crude protein, crude fat and crude ash (p>0.05). The apparent fecal digestibilities of all the nutrients were higher in total feces collection method than in indirect method. At the end of feeding trial, 21 pigs were slaughtered for examining the morphological changes of small intestine and the concentration of microorganisms in the ileum and the colon. Growth performance, intestinal morphology and pH of ileum and colon were not affected by the either enzyme complex supplementation (p>0.05). These results suggested that enzyme complex A and enzyme complex B were of no benefit to early-weaned pigs when corn-soybean meal based diet was provided.

      • Paenibacillus harenae sp. nov., isolated from desert sand in China

        Jeon, C. O.,Lim, J.-M.,Lee, S. S.,Chung, B. S.,Park, D.-J.,Xu, L.-H.,Jiang, C.-L.,Kim, C.-J. Microbiology Society 2009 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.59 No.1

<P>A Gram-positive, endospore-forming, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain B519T, was isolated from a desert sand sample of Gansu Province, China. Strain B519T was strictly aerobic and cells were motile by means of peritrichous flagella. The strain grew optimally at 32-35 degrees C and pH 6.5-7.0. Chemotaxonomic data supported the affiliation of the new isolate to the genus Paenibacillus, including menaquinone-7 (MK-7) as the major isoprenoid quinone, DNA G+C content of 49.9 mol%, cell-wall type A1gamma (meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid) and anteiso-C(15 : 0), iso-C(15 : 0), C(16 : 0) and iso-C(16 : 0) as the major fatty acids. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain B519T was most closely related to Paenibacillus alkaliterrae KSL-134T (98.0 % similarity). DNA-DNA relatedness between strain B519T and P. alkaliterrae KSL-134T was about 12.3 %. On the basis of phenotypic characteristics and molecular properties, strain B519T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus harenae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is B519T (=KCTC 3951T =DSM 16969T).</P>

Influence of spherical particles and interfacial stress distribution on viscous flow behavior of Ti@?Cu@?Ni@?Zr@?Sn bulk metallic glass composites

        Hong, S.H.,Kim, J.T.,Mun, S.C.,Kim, Y.S.,Park, H.J.,Na, Y.S.,Lim, K.R.,Park, J.M.,Kim, K.B. Elsevier Applied Science 2017 INTERMETALLICS Vol.91 No.-

Bulk metallic glass composites containing micro-scale B2 particles are subject to investigation with regards to the influence of B2 particles and interfacial stress and strain distribution on the viscous flow behavior at a super-cooled liquid state. An increased volume fraction of B2 particles leads to an increase of minimum viscosity and influences viscous flow behavior before crystallization. In high temperature deformation, the bulk metallic glass shows homogeneous deformation feature. However, the heterogeneous deformation feature is found in thermoplastically deformed bulk metallic glass composite. The strong stain accumulation and sluggish viscous flow occur around B2 particles, which are caused by the heterogeneous stress distribution linked to stress concentration and shear stress impediment around B2 particles. The sluggish viscous flow of super-cooled liquids around B2 particles during high temperature deformation induces an increase of viscosity and strongly affects the viscous flow behavior of Ti-based bulk metallic glass composites containing micro-scale spherical B2 particles.

Vol.8 No.-

The angular distribution of emission angle θ of helium (Z=2) produced in the collisions of incident particles of 200 GeV/nucleon ^32S in nuclear emulsion is well expressed by dN=exp[a+k exp(η-y_b)]d[exp(η-y_b)] where the pseudorapidity is η=-ln[tan(θ/2)], the laboratory system primary rapidity is y_b, and k=-0.057+0.008. The shape of this frequency of occurrence distributions in terms of exp(η-y_b) attests to the validity of the concept of "limiting fragmentation" for helium projectile fragments produced in the projectile fragmentation regions of heavy ion collisions in nuclear emulsion.

      • Influence of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate content on the optical properties of experimental 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-added dental glass ionomer

        Lim, H.N.,Yu, B.,Lim, J.I.,Ahn, J.S.,Lee, Y.K. Scientific and Technical Press ; Elsevier Science 2009 Materials & design Vol.30 No.10

The influence of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) on the properties of HEMA-added dental glass ionomer (HAGI) should be determined systematically to develop a smart restorative material. The purposes of this study were to determine the influence of incrementally added HEMA in experimental HAGIs on the color, translucency, opalescence, fluorescence and compressive strength, and to compare with those of commercial resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) materials. A varied amount of HEMA (10-50wt.%) was added into commercial glass ionomer liquid (Fuji II), which was then mixed with three shades of the same glass ionomer powder (shade nos. 21, 22 and 23). RMGIs from the same manufacturer were also investigated. Five specimens, 10mm in diameter and 2mm in thickness, were fabricated for each condition. Color of the HAGIs and RMGIs was measured with a reflectance spectrophotometer in the reflectance and the transmittance modes. Translucency, opalescence and fluorescence parameters were calculated. Compressive strength was determined. As the HEMA content increased, CIE L* value (lightness) decreased while the chroma increased. CIE a* value showed small and CIE b* value showed high increase as the HEMA content increased. Increase in translucency was generally dependent on HEMA content except for 30% HEMA condition of shade no. 21. Opalescence decreased as the HEMA content increased while the trend of fluorescence change was shade-dependent. Compressive strength significantly increased after HEMA addition except 50% HEMA condition. The influence of HAMA on the optical properties of HAGIs varied by the shade of powder and the amount of HEMA. For the most relevant simulation of the optical properties of teeth, addition of 30-40% HEMA is recommended when formulating HEMA-added glass ionomers.
