        Recently, the number of elderly people increases in Japan, and the development of welfare apparatus having the effect of minimizing care is required. In this research, authors develop Intelligent Power Wheelchair along with minimizing care needs for frail elderly people. This Intelligent Power Wheelchair features the four functions ; approach function by human gesture recognition, standing up assistance, walking assistance, and operation assistance by posture recognition. And it shows experiments which three assistances function in useful.

        Two-Dimensionally Extended Porphyrin Tapes: Synthesis and Shape-Dependent Two-Photon Absorption Properties

        <P>We report the synthesis and characterization of L- and T-shaped porphyrin tapes as extensible structural motifs of two-dimensionally extended porphyrin tapes. The two-photon absorption (TPA) cross-section values (σ<SUP>(2)</SUP>) for L- and T-shaped porphyrin tapes as well as those for linear trimeric and tetrameric porphyrin tapes were measured by an open-aperture Z-scan method at 2300 nm, a wavelength at which the one-photon absorption contribution is either zero or almost negligible. Under these conditions, the σ<SUP>(2)</SUP> values for the linear porphyrin tape trimer and tetramer were determined to be 18 500 and 41 200 GM, respectively. The σ<SUP>(2)</SUP> value for the L-shaped trimer was determined to be 8700 GM, which is only half that of the linear trimer, whereas the σ<SUP>(2)</SUP> value for the T-shaped tetramer was measured to be 35 700 GM. These results clearly indicate the dependence of the TPA cross-section on the molecular shape, which underscores the importance of directionality in the π-conjugation pathway for the enhancement of TPA cross- section.</P> <B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>Fused porphyrins: L- and T-shaped porphyrin tapes have been synthesized as extensible structural motifs of 2D extended-porphyrin tapes (see figure).       • Fluorescence Dynamics of Directly Meso−Meso Linked Porphyrin Rings Probed by Single Molecule Spectroscopy

        <P>Porphyrin rings CZ4, CZ6, and CZ8 that respectively comprise four, six, and eight porphyrins, immobilized in a thin PMMA film, have been investigated using single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy with a focus on the influences of the overall structural rigidity as the ring size of porphyrin array increases. Neighboring porphyrin moieties were linked directly to enhance through-bond electronic interactions and, as a consequence, efficient excitation energy migration processes like the natural LH2 complex. Unlike the ensemble study, the single molecule study using confocal microscopy could eliminate the averaging effect, and consequently provide detailed information on individual molecular behaviors. Indeed, in solution, as a dihedral angle between neighboring porphyrins decreases in the order of CZ6 > CZ8 > CZ4, red-shifted Q-absorption bands and faster excitation energy hopping rates were observed. However, at the single molecule level, we found that they show longer survival times, less frequent on-off behaviors, narrower fluorescence lifetime distributions, and high relative single molecular brightness in the order of CZ8 > CZ6 > CZ4, by recording fluorescence intensity trajectories. Especially, CZ4 reveals high photostability with its rigid structure, and about 3 porphyrin units among the 4 chromophores-constituted molecule behave as a collective coherent domain. Thus, our results single out CZ4 as a potential and promising candidate for application in artificial light harvesting solid-state devices.</P>
