The reduction of carbon dioxide emissions becomes a global issue, the main source of carbon dioxide emissions in the Asian region is the energy conversion sector, especially coal-fired power plants. We are working to develop technologies that will at least limit the increase in carbon dioxide emissions from the thermal power plants as one way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Our research aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by removing iron oxide scale from the feedwater system of thermal power plants using a superconducting high-gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) system, thereby reducing the loss of power generation efficiency. In this paper, the background of thermal power plants in Asia is outlined, followed by a case study of the introduction of a chemical cleaning line at an actual thermal power plant in Japan, and the possibility of introducing it into the thermal power plants in China based on the results.

Construction of an Oil Pump Rotor Production Line with High Productivity

New product line with additional secondary operation of oil pump rotor was built in necessity of increasing capacity. This new line includes steam treatment process after sizing. The new line achieved 1.6 times higher performance compared with a conventional line.

The JERS-1 synthetic aperture radar(SAR) images of the ocean surface are processed and validated with Japan Meteorological Agency(JMA) buoy stations' data in this study. In spite of the low transmission power making the low signal-to-noise ratio of JERS-11SAR data, the result how the possibility to detect ocean wave in high ocean state(Hs$gt;2m).The relation between the wave length derived from JERS-11SAR data and the significant wave period from JMA buoy is consistent with dispersion relation in deep sea.

<P>We report on 230 GHz (1.3 mm) very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations of M87 with the Event Horizon Telescope using antennas on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, Mt. Graham in Arizona, and Cedar Flat in California. For the first time, we have acquired 230 GHz VLBI interferometric phase information on M87 through measurement of the closure phase on the triangle of long baselines. Most of the measured closure phases are consistent with 0 degrees as expected by physically motivated models for 230 GHz structure such as jet models and accretion disk models. The brightness temperature of the event-horizon-scale structure is similar to 1 x 10(10) K derived from the compact flux density of similar to 1 Jy and the angular size of similar to 40 mu as similar to 5.5 R-s, which is broadly consistent with the peak brightness of the radio cores at 1-86 GHz located within similar to 10(2) R-s. Our observations occurred in the middle of an enhancement in very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray flux, presumably originating in the vicinity of the central black hole. Our measurements, combined with results of multi-wavelength observations, favor a scenario in which the VHE region has an extended size of similar to 20-60 R-s.</P>
