<P>Enantiomeric excess of chiral compounds is a key parameter that can influence their activity or therapeutic action. Current approaches to the rapid measurement of enantiomeric excess using H-1 NMR is based on the formation of diastereomeric complexes between chiral analytes and a chiral host, leading to two species with no symmetry relationship. Here, we demonstrate that a gelator host system can provide a means to elicit distinct chemical shifts in the H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of a mixture of diamines or monoamines depending on the corresponding enantiomeric excess of the guest mixture of chiral amines. These gelator hosts provide a unique example of NMR based assessment of the chirality and enantiopurity of guest amines.</P>

<P>Spectroscopic techniques exist that may discern between enantiomers and assess chiral purity. A nonspectroscopic approach that may be directly observed could provide numerous benefits. Using chiral alanine-appended benzene-tricarboxamide gelators, we reveal a methanol gel system that is capable of providing visual discrimination between enantiomers of various diamines. Specifically, gelation is induced by supramolecular nanofiber assembly resulting from interaction between a chiral gelator and a diamine of opposing chirality (i.e., a heterochiral system). Upon further implementing the chiral gelator in electrospun fibers as solid state films, we revealed enantioselective surface wetting properties that allowed for determining chirality through contact angle measurements. While these two approaches of observable gelation and surface wetting offer nonspectroscopic approaches, we also find that the supramolecular nanofiber assembly was able to enhance the induced circular dichroism signal resulting from addition of chiral diamines, allowing precise quantification of their enantiomeric purity.</P>

급속한 산업화에 따라 공업단지의 면적이 넓어지고 있으며, 이에 따라 공단이 포함된 지역 경관에 큰 변화가 나타나고 있다. 이러한 무분별한 공업단지의 확산은 주변 경관과의 조화를 무너뜨리는 등의 부정적인 영향도 적지 않으며, 지역 경관을 고려한 색채 계획을 통해 전반적인 이미지 개선이 지속적으로 요구된다. 그중에서도 공장 지붕 색채의 경우, 건축물의 가장 넓은 면적을 차지하고 있는 만큼 지역 경관과의 연속성을 고려한 색채 계획이 반드시 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 공장단지의 지붕 색채 측색 조사를 통하여 문제점을 도출하고, 지역 환경 색채의 적용하여 개선된 디자인의 선호도 조사를 실시하여 공장 지붕 색채 개선에 대한 근거를 마련하고자 한다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 조사지역 사진의 원본(사진A)과 본 연구에서 제안하는 개선안(사진B)을 비교하여 개인적 선호도, 주변 경관과의 조화도, 주변 경관과의 연속성, 지역 환경과의 어울림, 색채의 기능성, 색채 만족도를 조사한 결과, 모든 항목에서 개선안으로 제시된 사진B에 대해 비교적 긍정적인 응답이 나타났다. 그러나 두 사진을 동시에 보여주며 비교하였던 앞의 설문조사와 달리, 각 사진을 개별적으로 보여주며 실시한, SD법 분석에서는 사진B에 대한 이미지가 부정적으로 나타났다. 본 연구가 주변 경관과의 조화성과 연속성, 개성이 높은 공업단지 지붕 색채 개선에 기여하기를 기대한다. Because of rapid industrialization, industrial complexes widely distributed. And it cast a long shadow over the landscape of the region. However, building of industrial complexes have a bad influence on harmony of landscape. The landscape harmonized with nature affect on the improvement of region image. Especially, the color of roof takes big part of structure image, the plan for harmonize with nature. Therefore, we draw a problem of the color of factory roof through in this study. Using the result of investigation, we suggest the improved design and survey the preference of the design. And we find the basis that region perception could be improved through the changing color of factory roof. In the survey, we compared the picture of the Nam yangju industrial complexes(picture A) and the picture of the suggestion on the study(picture B). we surveyed person preference, harmony, continuity, gainliness with landscape, the funtionality and satisfaction of the color. As a result, the suggested picture B took positive estimation. However, the survey estimated the feeling of image with showing each picture one by one, picture B had some negative result. And some of respondent had opinions ‘harmony with nature, but not be bored.’ The research showed that the design suggestion for harmony, continuity with nature and the characteristic of region could improve the region image.

Thyroid hormone plays a vital role in regulating human metabolism. They affect the functions of major organs, such as the brain, liver, skeletal muscle, and heart. Hypothyroidism can lead to dilated cardiomyopathy and decreased heart function. In this report, we describe a case of a teenage boy who developed dilated cardiomyopathy due to hypothyroidism and was considered to undergo heart transplantation. Levothyroxine monotherapy was initiated but produced no improvement. Thereafter, a combination therapy of liothyronine and levothyroxine was administered, and heart function was gradually restored; he recovered completely after 6 months. Cardiac myocytes respond more specifically to liothyronine than to levothyroxine. Therefore, we suggest that liothyronine and levothyroxine combination therapy should be considered rather than levothyroxine monotherapy for hypothyroidism accompanied by heart disease.

Due to rapid changes in the modern civilized society, there is a growing interest in the reduction of physical labor and the improvement of health. For the last few of decades, the prevalence of obesity has been continually on the rise. Overseas studies on obesity-related risk factors suggested that obesity could lead to backache-related diseases. The backache is the most common musculo-skeletal disease among people of all ages, classes and vocations, and might result in excessive costs on a socio-economic front. In this fact-finding survey, this study examined the relation between pain intensity, muscle strength, and weight loss, when William exercise, McKenzie exercise, and aerobic exercise were applied as a regimen for Korean adults who suffered from abdominal obesity and backache. After selecting a total of 60 male and female adults as an experiment group, their individual BMIs were measured to classify the study participants into overweight, obese and severe obese groups, and their personal information such as gender, physical profiles and vocations were analyzed. An analysis was conducted based on the self-administered questionnaire answers including the occurrence cases and periods of backache, treatment types, treatment periods, exercise periods, and sedentary times on chairs and in front of computers. A 12-week intensive exercise program which required the participants to do the regular exercise regimen for one hour three times per week (a ‘Mon/Wed/Fri’ team or a ‘Tue/Thur/Sat’ team), and the participants’ physical changes were measured when the 12-week program is finished. In the trends of soaring job stress and musculoskeletal disorder, it can be said that they affect not only one of the problems but also the physical and mental health problems in care worker. The problem of service mentality can be a triggered, so it is important to find a solution for the health in care worker.

Background: Abnormalities of myelin, which increases the efficiency of action potential conduction, are found in neurological disorders. Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) demonstrates therapeutic efficacy against some of these conditions, however effects on oligodendrocyte (OL)s are not well known. Here, we examined the effects of KRG-derived components on development and protection of OL-lineage cells. Methods: Primary OL precursor cell (OPC) cultures were prepared from neonatal mouse cortex. The protective efficacies of the KRG components were examined against inhibitors of mitochondrial respiratory chain activity. For in vivo function of Rb1 on myelination, after 10 days of oral gavage into adult male mice, forebrains were collected. OPC proliferation were assessed by BrdU incorporation, and differentiation and myelination were examined by qPCR, western blot and immunocytochemistry. Results: The non-saponin promoted OPC proliferation, while the saponin promoted differentiation. Both processes were mediated by AKT and extracellular regulated kinase (ERK) signaling. KRG extract, the saponin and non-saponin protected OPCs against oxidative stress, and both KRG extract and the saponin significantly increased the expression of the antioxidant enzyme. Among 11 major ginsenosides tested, Rb1 significantly increased OL membrane size in vitro. Moreover, Rb1 significantly increased myelin formation in adult mouse brain. Conclusion: All KRG components prevented OPC deaths under oxidative stress. While non-saponin promoted proliferation, saponin fraction increased differentiation and OL membrane size. Furthermore, among all the tested ginsenosides, Rb1 showed the biggest increase in the membrane size and significantly enhanced myelination in vivo. These results imply therapeutic potentials of KRG and Rb1 for myelin-related disorders.
The Sizing of Gayageum for Young Players

Objective: The aim of this study is the sizing of Gayageum, one of the Korea traditional musical instruments, for young players who are physically growing. Background: Gayageum has been made for adults for a long time. However this instrument has been used regardless of age with different body dimensions. Therefore, in the case of young players, they have suffered from the abnormal posture in playing. Method: The posture of professional player in National Gugak(Korean Traditional Music) Center was photographed and analyzed. Investigate the player's trunk angle to compare with young player's posture. Results: The size of Gayageum for young players is 0.76 compared with the size of Gayageum for adults. Conclusion: This study suggests the size of 0.76 redesigned Gayageum suitable for young players in 5 to 10-year-old. Application: This method could be applied to design other kinds of musical instrument for young players.
