Development of a Robot Personality based on Cultural Paradigm using Fuzzy Logic
Fawad Ahmed Qureshi,Kim Euntai(김은태),Mignon Park(박민용) 한국지능시스템학회 2008 한국지능시스템학회 학술발표 논문집 Vol.18 No.1
Robotics has emerged as an important field for the future. It is our vision that robots in future will be able to transcend these precincts and work side by side humans for the greater good of mankind. We developed a face robot for this purpose. However, Life like robots demands a certain level of intelligence. Some scientists have proposed an event based learning approach, in which the robot can be taken as a small child and through learning from surrounding entities develops its own personality. In fact some scientists have proposed an entire new personality of the robot itself in which robot can have its own internal states, intentions, beliefs, desires and feelings. Our approach should not only be to develop a robot personality model but also to understand human behavior and incorporate it into the robot model. Human’s personality is very complex and rests on many factors like its physical surrounding, its social surrounding, and internal states and beliefs etc. This paper discusses the development of this platform to evaluate this and develop a standard by a society based approach including the cultural paradigm. For this purpose the fuzzy control theory is used. Since the fuzzy theory is very near human analytical thinking it provides a very good platform to develop such a model.
Use of Covered Stents to Treat Coarctation of the Aorta
Shakeel Ahmed Qureshi 대한심장학회 2009 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.39 No.7
Transcatheter treatments for coarctation of the aorta include balloon angioplasty and stent implantation. However, balloon angioplasty has its limitations and may be associated with complications, such as, recoarctation, dissection, and aneurysm formation, in adult patients. Bare metal stent implantation has offered an alternative during the last decade or so, but covered stents have been used with increasing frequency more recently, to the extent that covered stent implantation is the preferred treatment in correctly selected patients. Primary stent insertion, whether bare metal or covered, prevents elastic recoil of the aorta and may provide better and more predictable results than balloon angioplasty. Furthermore, stents are preferable for the treatment of complex aortic arch obstructions, but their usage is limited to older patients, because of limitations associated with growth. Effect of Rib Geometry in Steel–Concrete Composite Beams with Deep Profiled Sheeting
Ahmed Albarram,Jawed Qureshi,Ali Abbas 한국강구조학회 2020 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.20 No.3
Presented are the results from a fi nite element model of steel–concrete composite beams with deep decks and a comparison with various analytical/design methods. Using a deck deeper than 80 mm are becoming popular with a desire for longer spanning capability and lower concrete volume. However, there are no design rules in either American or European design codes for using a deck deeper than 80 mm, as both codes limit the deck rib height to 75 and 85 mm, respectively for using the stud’s capacity formula. Therefore, research is needed to establish the design stud capacity in beams with decks deeper than 80 mm. After extensive validation, the 3-D FE model is used for a parametric study with tests having decks deeper than 80 mm. The parameters include rib geometries, studs’ layout and concrete slab reinforcements. The FE results showed that stud capacity with narrow and deep decks (100–150 mm) is about 70% of the conventional decking (60–80 mm deep). The stud capacities from the numerical results were compared to the predicted strengths from the design/theoretical models. While the equations from the concrete pull-out failure mode by Johnson and Yuan (Proc Inst Civ Eng Struct Build 128(3):252–263, 1998) gave reasonable predictions with a coeffi cient of variation as 11%, both EC4 and ANSI/AISC rules provided inaccurate and inconsistent predicted strengths. A generalised stud capacity formula should be developed in the design codes for decks deeper than 80 mm.
Quantitative Analyses of Esophageal Cancer Research in Pakistan
Qureshi, Muhammad Asif,Khan, Saeed,Ujjan, Ikram Din,Iqbal, Asif,Khan, Ramsha,Khan, Bilal Ahmed Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.7
Background: Health-care research is a neglected discipline in Pakistan and research related to esophageal cancer (ranks 9th in Pakistani males and 5th in females) is no exception in this regard. Particularly, there are no data available to delineate the overall status of esophageal cancer epidemiological studies in Pakistan. This study describes the first ever effort to make a systematic quantification, in an attempt to provide a road-map to all stakeholders for designing appropriate epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Materials and Methods: International (PubMed, ISI Web of Knowledge) and local (PakMedinet) scientific databases as well as Google search engine were searched using specified keywords to extract relevant publication. Well-defined inclusion criteria were implemented to select publications for final analyses. All data were recorded by at least 3 authors and consensus data were entered into and analyzed for descriptive statistics (such as frequencies, percentages and annual growth rates) using Microsoft Excel and SPSS software. Results: A total of 79 publications fulfilled the inclusion criteria including 20 publications for which full texts were not available. Of the 79 publications, 59 (74.6%) were original/research publications, 5 (6.3%) were case reports, 4 (5.1%) were research communications, 2 (2.5%) were review articles, 1 was (1.2%) correspondence and 8 (10.1%) were undefined categories. Only 13 (<20%) cities of Pakistan contributed towards the 79 publications. On average, only 1.9 relevant publications/year were published from 1976 (year of first publication) to the present. Alarmingly, a decline in the annual growth at -4.1% was recorded in the last six years. Conclusions: Esophageal cancer research is largely unfathomed in Pakistan. Urgent/dramatic steps are required by all concerned to address this common (and under reported) cancer of Pakistan.

A venturi scrubber is an important element of Filtered Containment Venting System (FCVS) for theremoval of aerosols in contaminated air. The present work involves computational fluid dynamics(CFD) study of dust particle removal efficiency of a venturi scrubber operating in self-priming mode usingANSYS CFX. Titanium oxide (TiO2) particles having sizes of 1 micron have been taken as dust particles. CFD methodology to simulate the venturi scrubber has been first developed. The cascade atomizationand breakup (CAB) model has been used to predict deformation of water droplets, whereas the EulerianeLagrangian approach has been used to handle multiphase flow involving air, dust, and water. Thedeveloped methodology has been applied to simulate venturi scrubber geometry taken from the literature. Dust particle removal efficiency has been calculated for forced feed operation of venturi scrubberand found to be in good agreement with the results available in the literature. In the second part, venturiscrubber along with a tank has been modeled in CFX, and transient simulations have been performed tostudy self-priming phenomenon. Self-priming has been observed by plotting the velocity vector fields ofwater. Suction of water in the venturi scrubber occurred due to the difference between static pressure inthe venturi scrubber and the hydrostatic pressure of water inside the tank. Dust particle removal efficiencyhas been calculated for inlet air velocities of 1 m/s and 3 m/s. It has been observed that removalefficiency is higher in case of higher inlet air velocity.
