Biological approaches for producing high-value glycerol products have recently received a lot of attention. Glycerol dehydratase (GDHt) is involved in the dehydration of glycerol to form 3-hydroxypropanal (3-HPA). The dissociation of the subunit during purification has been avoided by joining the and subunits, which has the interesting effect of increasing the catalytic activity of the linked enzyme. Protein modeling, molecular mechanics, and thermodynamics computational approaches were used to comparatively monitor the interface changes. The WT and fGDHt enzymes were cloned, expressed, and analyzed for activity, biochemical characteristics, and inactivation rate. Overall, our findings suggest that linker-based fusion of the α and β subunits affect the stability of GDHt and the bound coenzymes, potentially delaying enzyme inactivation.

Hydrogen mineral disinfectant farming (HMDF) applies hydrogen mineral disinfectant water which is containing hypochlorous acid component in the production quality and high yield agricultural produce. Hydrogen mineral disinfectant (HMD) water has been found to have antimicrobial effects and is used in washing eggs, processing meat and the control of disease in livestock. In poultry, it increases body weight of livestock and also reduces smell in the farm. Endotoxin or lipopolysaccharide is part of outer membrane architecture of gram-negative bacteria, and a common food contaminant, which poses great health risk to humans, characterized by sepsis, shock or even death. Endotoxin detection and removal is an important part of the industrial food, pharmaceutical and medical equipment production process. Our study aims to compare the endotoxin levels of eggs produced by HMDF and eggs on the market. The limulus amoebocyte lysate test was used to determine the level of endotoxin in whole liquid eggs from HMDF (n = 12) and eggs from the market (n = 12), randomly sampled. Analysis of variance followed by multiple comparison test was used to analyze the data. As a result, The endotoxin level was significantly low in the experimental eggs (0.25 EU/mL) compared to the contol (10 EU/mL) (p >0.005). This result suggests that the application of HMDF in egg production could reduce risk associated with endotoxin-induced health problems.

Desiccated coconut waste (DCW) is an agricultural waste that originates from the coconut milk processing industry. In this study, it was utilized for the removal of copper (Cu(II)) and nickel (Ni(II)) via adsorption process. The physicochemical characterization of the DCW adsorbent shows that the adsorbent have a surface area of 6.63 ㎡/g, have high elemental carbon content and existences of important functional groups on its surface. The adsorptive capability of DCW adsorbent in removing the heavy metal were conducted in batch studies. DCW adsorbent performed highest Ni(II) and Cu(II) adsorption capacity at pH 6, where equilibrium is achieved at 450 minutes. The kinetic analysis showed the adsorption agreed with pseudo-second order kinetic model, indicating the Cu(II) and Ni(II) adsorption were a chemical adsorption, limited by the film diffusion. The DCW adsorbent still retained its effective adsorption capacity after 2 adsorption-desorption cycles, which is one of the excellent criteria of a good adsorbent for an adsorption process.
