In this research, an architecture of Web based software system for performing physical validation of Automated Manufacturing Systems(AMS) in the design phase as well as in actual operation stages is presented together with implementation details. The proposed software system can be used for validating a general AMS model by modeling of facilities, facility layout, etc. The system has three major modules : 1) shape modeling module for defining basic solid primitives, 2) equipment modeling module for modeling physical configurations including kinematics of the facilities in AMS, 3) facility layout design module for constructing the physical layout model of AMS. The main results of this research include : 1) modeling method and virtual layout for facilities in AMS, 2) development of an web based software system using VRML, EAI and JAVA, 3) an application software system in the modeling of a Flexible Manufacturing System.
