We used in-situ synchrotron X-ray scattering to investigate phase transformations of octahedral tilted monoclinic SrRuO3 (MSRO) and tetragonal SRO (TSRO) thin films on SrTiO3 (STO) substrates. The octahedral tilted MSRO thin films were highly crystalline and the monoclinic distortion angle was 0.45. The phase transition temperature from the MSRO to TSRO phase occurred at approximately 200 C as a second order transition. Conversely, no phase transformations of the TSRO thin film occurred within the range from RT to 250 C. The octahedral RuO6 rotation was strongly affected by the phase transformation in the SRO thin films.

An autopsy case of disseminated cryptococcosis in a 20 year old Korean female has been reported. Both gelatinous and granulomatous lesions are observed in the lungs, liver, extrahepatic biliary system, spleen, pancreas, adrenals, kidneys, small intestine, lymphnodes, bone marrow, skin, and leptomeninges and brain. Large numbers of micro-organism, that are spherical or ovoid, non-sporulating, non-mycelial, yeast-like with evidence of budding measuring 5-20 microns in diameter, and with thick gelatinous capsules, are found in the lesions. These morpholomans, gical characteristics of the organisms are strongly consistant with cryptococcus neofor-although cultures of the organisms have been failed to be performed. The gelatinous lesions consist mainly of masses of micro-organisms with little inflammatory response, while the granulomatous lesions reveal numerous lymphocytes, plasma cells, epitheloid cells and macrophages frequently forming giant cells, occasional neutrophils and variable number of fibroblastic cells. In case, caseous or coagulative type of necrosis is observed, and these focal lesions contain many degenerated organisms in the periphery. Neutrophilic infiltration is meager, and calcification in the lesions is not observed. These anatomical changes characterized by non-suppurative and granulomatous reaction and by gelatinous appearance of the lesion appear to be distinctly different from other mycotic infections than cryptococcosis. In this case, extensive leptomeningeal and limited cerebral cortical involvement is assumed to have been a late event, that formed the probable direct cause of death of the patient. The portal of entry of the organisms in this case has been discussed with special emphasis on the respiratory tract infection. This is believed to be the first reported autopsy case of cryptococcosis in the Korean literature.

PURPOSE: The primary objective of this study was to investigate the effect of sand surface exercise compare with general surface exercise on balance capability, extremity muscle activity, and inflammatory markers in older women. METHODS: A total of 40 subjects aged over 65 years were enrolled for this study. They were assigned into two groups (20 subjects in each group): 1) exercise on sand (SG); and 2) exercises on general ground (HG). RESULTS: There was no interaction effect between group and time on body composition and blood pressure. There were significant difference in overall, anterior/posterior, medial/lateral between the SG and HG. And changes in proprioceptive sensation were significantly different between the two groups. Knee extension was also significantly higher in the HG than in the sand group. There were significant difference in the tibialis anterior, the gastrocnemius, and biceps femoris between the SG and HG. There were significant increases in respective muscle activities after exercises in SG. After the exercise program, there was a significant difference between times in C-reactive protein (CRP). There were significant difference in rheumatoid arthritis factor (RA factor) factor between the SG and HG. Also, SG resulted in a greater reduction in RA factor than the HG. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that sand exercise program can produce benefits with regard to balancing capacity functional improvement, reduction of inflammatory markers, and prevention of proprioceptive sensation in the older women, thus contributing to a better quality of life.

Under the worldwide booming internet environment, there has been increasing demand for various multimedia services. Especially the demand for effective video services has been rapidly increased. In this paper, we propose an study of an adaptive video transmission system for internet use based on H.263 video compression technique and RTP/RTCP protocol on the TCP/IP environment with the variable bandwidth. To efficiently adapt to the network and decoding status, the decoding status information adds to the network status information and send back to the server. In addition, by using the plug-in-play technique, the implemented system improved user interface for easy usage.

To investigate the effect of smoking and drinking habit on the health status of lead workers, 220 male workers in lead using industries and 210 male controls were selected for this study. Selected study variables were lead in blood (PbB), zinc protoporphyrin in blood (ZPP), delta-aminolevulinic acid in urine(DALA), hemoglobin (Hb), and hematocrit (Hct). Questionnaire for lead related symptoms (15 symptoms) and smoking and drinking habit was provided to all the workers and filled up by themselves and reconfirmed by physician. The results obtained were as follows; 1. While smoking and drinking rate of lead exposed group were 77.7% and 75.8%, respectively, those of control group were 53.3% and 35.7%, respectively. 2. Mean values of lead exposed indices of lead workers was significantly different from other group. 3. In exposed workers, there was significant differences of DALA between smoker and non-smoker. 4. The neuromuscular symptom prevalence of lead exposure was higher in lead exposed group than non-exposed group. 5. Symptom prealence of lead exposure were higher in drinking and smoking group than non-drinking and non-smoking group. 6. While logistic analysis of positive neuromuscular symptom with categorized blood lead and age, smoking, drinking as categorized independent variables indicated that only blood lead (>40㎍/㎗) was significantly contributed to dependent variable with 95% significant odd ratio confidence interval, logistic analysis of positive constitutional symptom with same categorized independent variables indicated that only age (>40years) was significantly contributed to dependent variable. And logistic analysis of total symptom with same categorized independent variables indicated that blood lead (>40㎍/㎗) and age (>40years) were significantly contributed to dependent variable.
