The representing Goguryos wall-paintings extant are the ones that drawn on the walls of tomb chambers. In contrast, the European wall paintings are those that appeared during the ancient Rome period and they are considered part of decoration on the walls of architectures. Comparing contemporary manufacturing techniques of the wall-paintings of Koguryos with those of Romes, plaster mural was mainly used as basic material in Koguryo. In the case of Rome, however, this period is characterized by Mosaic wall-painting techniques influenced by Hellenistic culture. As a consequence, for a better understanding of the difference of the manufacturing techniques of the two countries, it is necessary to compare the wall paintings of Koguryo with those of Rome appeared in the first-half of Rome period. Therefore, in this paper, I briefly overviewed the historical backgrounds of the study of Roman Fresco considered to be the origin of traditional European Fresco. After examining the differences of wall-painting manufacturing techniques between Goguryo and Rome, I came to a conclusion that the assertion that Koguryo people may have adopted Fresco technique in their wall-painting manufacturing processes should be reconsidered.
