Apartment housing block has been spreaded according to rapid economic development and urbanization in Korea. A parking lot is located at underground, artificial ground is inevitably created in apartment housing block. Artificial ground creates different thermal environment compared to natural ground, because the composition and coverage of artificial ground are diverse. In this study, the effect of the artificial ground on building thermal environment will be disscussed by simulation. Considering the result of simulation, surface albedo is more important for building energy performance. A purpose of this study is to examine how the characteristic of surface effect to thermal environment, and to develop design method for sustainable outdoor space.

The indoor environment was a main control point in apartment houses. However, increases in the concerns about the sustainable building or sustainable housing, coupled with increasing awareness of the environmental damage caused by the building constructions, stimulated interest in outdoor environment design of building. With these current, the outdoor environment of apartment complexes have been improving recently, but the effect of environmental-friendly outdoor design was not yet reported enough. In this study, the effect of sustainable outdoor design is analyzed with field measurement. From the field measurement results, the features of outdoor thermal environment are reported. in this paper.

To constitute green outdoor environment surrounding building is attracting attention with central concern of the city and site planning. To use impermeability paving materials(asphalt, concrete, etc.) are gradually reduced and to use permeability materials are increased by laws and regulations. According to these trends, variety researches are advanced at this moment and interest about temperature reduction and thermal comfort on pedestrian level, etc. However, outdoor condition will be effect to vertical thermal environment as well as horizontal level for pedestrians. But, researches related vertical thermal environment did not enough in this time. So, there is a necessity which will examine affects to the building through the measurement. The aims of this study are to examine both radiant characteristic and vertical temperature of each ground surface covering by measurement. These results will be possible to estimate the outdoor condition affects in building.

Recently with the demand of well-being is increased, the demand for indoor thermal environment and air quality is increased. According to this circumstance, many people in Korea note the traditional architecture that is made by natural materials, such as a soil, stone and wood. However, few researches regarding the indoor thermal environmental characteristics of the Korean traditional houses is reported. In this study we analyzed the indoor thermal environment for Han-ok through field measurement. Moreover, based on the field measurement results. indoor thermal comfort in Han-ok is analyzed.

Since most of the existing CFD simulation about thermal environment was limited as indoor environment, it is not appropriate to adopt the same method for external thermal environment, because the solar radiation highly affect the outdoor thermal environment. Thus, in case of assessing the outdoor thermal environment, the radiation calculation is very important. In this study, as a new method to evaluate the outdoor thermal environment, coupled simulation of convection and radiation will be proposed.

The aims of this study are to examine the air flow characteristics in the outdoor environment on the residential building block in terms of thermal comfort. With this in mind, field measurement conducted. And, in base on the field measurements, the characteristics of natural wind fluctuation are analyzed by the Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) analysis. The differences as the location can be found by using the Power Spectrum Density(PSD) analysis, and the relationships can be modeled as a slope of the low frequencies of the natural wind spectrum,β-value.

As outdoor environment become worse due to concentration of population in large cities, the importance of environmental control strategies such as the arrangement of green space or water space and ventilation paths, has been increasingly recognized. However, most of the studies focus on the assessment. on outdoor thermal environment, few studies focus on the interrelationship between thermal environment in residential block and human thermal comfort. The aims of this study is to develop the outdoor planning method to reduce the heating/cooling load in an apartment unit or entire block by the sustainable approaches in outdoor environmental design. In this paper, on the basis of the prior studies. the effect of the outdoor thermal environment on human thelma] comfort will be analysed.
