This study was carried out to evaluate the minimum duration of low temperature treatment required for vernalization of rye, triticale and oats varieties in Suweon, Korea. Low temperature(4℃) treatments for vernalization were made in green-seed(Budding Seed) stage for different duration such as ten, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one and zero weeks, respectively. After treatment, all of the treated plants were transplanted into the greenhouse with 25℃/20℃(day/night) and 24 hour-day length condition to be grown until flag leaf emergence. And then, days from transplanting to flag leaf emergence were observed and the results was shown as follows : Five varieties, including ‘Megwiri’ appeared to be grade Ⅰ for growth habit, one, grade Ⅱ, two grade Ⅲ, and one, grade Ⅳ in oats. In triticale two varieties, including ‘Sinkihomil’ appeared to be grade Ⅲ, five, grade Ⅱ, and one, grade Ⅳ. In rye two varieties, including ‘Karlshulder (Spring)’ and ‘Sorom’, grade Ⅰ, one, grade Ⅳ, three, grade Ⅵ, six, including ‘Paldanghomil’, grade Ⅶ, one, grade Ⅸ, and two, beyond grade Ⅹ.

The objective of this study was to determine by using Hayman’s six parameter model whether epistasis played a significant role in the genetic systems for culm length among several winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars. Parents, F₁, F₂ and first generation backcrosses (B₁ and B₂) of five crosses were grown in the field of Wheat and Barley Research Institute in Suwon, Korea, from October, 1984 to June, 1985. There were some deviations between F₁s and their Mid-parent to suggest the presence of the considerably different degree of gene interaction of additive and non-additive depending upon crosses. Narrow-sense heritability estimates on culm length were very high for three crosses and moderate for two. GS(Gain from selection) of each cross ranged from 13 to 30%. Although additive and dominant gene action were considerable in most crosses, fitness of 3-parameter model was not significant for culm length of wheat crosses. Six-parameter model analysis showed that dominant x dominant epistasis, additive x additive epistasis and dominance gene action significantly affected the expression of culm length in most crosses.

국립식량과학원에서 국내 환경에 적합한 조사료용 호밀 품종을 개발하기 위하여 1995년에 '조춘호밀' 등 10개 품종을 방임수분으로 혼합 교배하여 그 중에서 형질이 우수한 'SR95POP-S1-140-9-1-3-7-5-3' 계통을 선발하였다. 선발 계통에 대해 생산력을 검정한 결과 특성이 우수하여 '호밀 50호'로 계통명을 부여하고 5개 지역에서 3개년간 지역적응성을 검정하였으며, 조사료 수량뿐만 아니라 종실 수량이 높은 것으로 나타나 2013년 직무육성신품종 선정위원회에서 신품종으로 선정됨과 함께 '씨드그린'으로 명명되었다. '씨드그린'은 초형이 직립이고, 잎색은 농록색이며, 길이는 길고, 폭은 넓은 편이다. 줄기는 황백색으로 중간 정도의 굵기이며, 종실은 갈색이고, 중간 크기이다. '씨드그린'의 출수기는 4월 22일로 표준품종인 '곡우' 보다 3일, 성숙기는 6월 16일로 2일 빠르다. 초장은 141 cm로 '곡우' 보다 3 cm 길다. 한해는 평균 2로 표준품종인 '곡우'의 1과 대등한 수준이며, 도복은 '곡우' 보다 약간 강하였으며, 습해와 병해는 발생하지 않았다. '씨드그린'의 생초수량은 ha 당 39.8톤(곡우 40.8톤), 건물수량은 평균 8.3톤(곡우 8.4톤)으로 '곡우' 보다 약간 적었으나, 종실수량은 4톤으로 '곡우'보다 16% 증수하였다. '씨드그린'의 조단백질 함량은 10.5%로서 '곡우' 보다 0.8% 높았으며, ADF와 NDF 함량(%)은 각각 38.8%와 66.4%로 '곡우' 보다 낮았으나, TDN 함량(%)은 58.3%로 '곡우' 보다 1.3% 높았으며, TDN 수량 또한 4.81 톤/ha로 '곡우' 보다 약간 높았다. "Seedgreen" (Secale cereal L.), a new rye cultivar was developed by National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), RDA in 2013. It was developed from an open pollination from within 10 rye varieties or lines including "Chochun" in 1995. The line "SR95POP-S1-140-9-1-3-7-5-3" was selected for its excellent agronomic appearance, and was placed in yield trials for three years from 2008 to 2010. The new cultivar was designated "Homil50" and was placed in regional yield trials at the five locations around Korea from 2011 to 2013, during which time the name "Seedgreen" was given. This cultivar is an erect plant type and of a long size, with a dark-green leaf color, a yellowish-white colored, medium-diameter culm, and a brown-colored, medium-size grain. The heading and maturation dates of Seedgreen were April 22 and June 16, which were 3 days and 2 days earlier than that of "Gogu", respectively. Seedgreen also showed better winter hardiness and a greater resistance to lodging and wet injury compared to those of the check cultivar. Over three years, the average dry matter yield of Seedgreen was 8.3 ton $ha^{-1}$ (fresh yield = 39.8 ton $ha^{-1}$), which was harvested in late April and was lower than that of the check cultivar Gogu. The seed productivity of Seedgreen was approximately 4 ton $ha^{-1}$, which was 16 % more than that of the check. Seedgreen was higher to than Gogu in term of protein content (10.5% and 9.7%, respectively), total digestible nutrients (TDN) (58.3% and 57%, respectively), and TDN yield $ha^{-1}$ (4.81 ton and 4.77 ton, respectively). This cultivar is recommended as a fall sowing crop in areas where the average daily minimum-mean temperatures are higher than $-12^{\circ}C$ in January, and as a winter crop for whole-crop forage before the planting of rice or green manure around Korea.

A ‘Hayanchal95’, a new waxy corn hybrid, is a single cross hybrid developed by the maize breeding team at the National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), Rural Development Administration(RDA) in 2011. This hybrid was made by crossing between seed parent KW44 and pollen parent KW35. Days to silking of Hayanchal95 was three days earlier than Ilmichal, a check hybrid. Ear length and diameter of Hayanchal95 were 18.3 cm and 4.1 cm, respectively. The ratio of kernel set length to ear length was 90% and lower than Ilmichal. Its quality characteristics like amylopectin content, hardness of kernels, and value of sensory evaluation were not significantly different from Ilmichal except grain length. Resistance to corn borer and lodging tolerance of Hayanchal95 were better than Ilmichal. The number of fresh ears was similar to those of Ilmichal and weight of fresh ears was lower than Ilmichal in regional yield trials (RYT) from 2009 to 2011. Although flowering time of its parent lines was good match during crossing between the seed and pollen parents, seed production was low. It is adaptable to the whole country. Plant variety protection right of ‘Hayanchal95’ was registered in July 2014, and its grant number is 5110.

Rooting ratio of sucker was investigated at the different levels of cutting time and length, and that of stem was also investigated at the various levels of cutting time, part of stem, duration of storage and length of stem in ramie. Higher rooting ratio were observed in the cutting of June 28 rather than of the late March or early April, and in longer suker rather than shorter among 2cm, 3cm, 4cm and 5cm long suker, but total number of rooting suker was more in 2cm or 3cm than 5 cm-long-sucker, in the sucker propagation of ramie. In stem cutting higher rooting ratio were observed in 5 day after harvesting time, in first part from the ground, in shorter storage duration, and in longer stem cutted. But total number of rooting stem was most in 7.5cm long stem. Also there are highly significant correlationship(r=0.9302) between weight of stem and rooting ratio.

신광옥은 다수성 사료용 옥수수 품종 개발을 목표로 2012년에 농촌진흥청 국립식량과학원에서 자식계통 KS172과 KS173을 교잡하여 육성한 다수성 단교잡종이다. 신광옥의 종피색은 황오렌지색이며 입질은 중간종이다. 신광옥은 2008~2009년 동안 생산력검정시험을 거쳐 2010~2012년까지 3지역에서 지역적응시험을 실시하였다. 그 결과 우수성이 인정되어 2012 농작물 직무육성 신품종으로 결정되었고 신광옥으로 명명하였다. 신광옥의 출사일수는 대비품종인 장다옥과 비슷하다. 간장은 장다옥과 비슷하나 착수고율은 장다옥보다 낮고 도복은 장다옥과 비슷한 정도로 강하다. 100주당 이삭은 장다옥보다 17개 더 많고 이삭길이는 장다옥과 비슷하며, 100립중은 장다옥과 비슷하다. 깨씨무늬병 저항성은 중강이며, 그을음무늬병에는 강한 편이다. 검은줄 오갈병, 이삭썩음병 및 조명나방 저항성은 중 정도이다. 신광옥의 종실수량은 7.8 톤/ha로 장다옥과 비슷하다. 4 : 1(모본 : 부본) 재식비율로 동시 파종하여 채종 시험한 결과 종자친(모본) 출사기와 화분친(부본) 화분비산기간이 일치하였으며 채종수량은 3.84 톤/ha이었다. 신광옥은 전국적으로 재배가 가능하다. Singwangok, a new single cross variety, was developed by the maize breeding team at the National Institute of Crop Science (NICS), RDA in 2012. This hybrid, consisting of a high yield of grain, was produced by crossing two inbred lines, KS172 and KS173. KS172 is the seed parent and KS173 is the pollen parent of Singwangok. It is a yellow-orange intermediate maize hybrid (Zea mays L.). After the preliminary yield trial and advanced yield trial of Singwangok (Suwon185) in Suwon for 2 years, the regional yield trial of that was subsequently carried out for its growth characteristics and yield at 3 different locations from 2010 to 2012. It was named as Singwangok. The silking date of Singwangok is similar to the check hybrid, Jangdaok. The plant height of Singwangok is similar to Jangdaok, but its ear height ratio is lower than that of Jangdaok. Moreover, it has a resistance to lodging. The ear number per 100 plants of Singwangok is more 17 than that of Jangdaok, whereas the ear length of Singwangok is similar to Jangdaok. Further, the weight of 100 seeds of Singwangok is similar to Jangdaok. It has a moderate resistance to southern leaf blight (Bipolaris maydis) and a strong resistance to northern leaf blight (Exserohilum turcicum). Furthermore, it has a moderate resistance to the black streaked dwarf virus (BSDV), ear lot and corn borer. The grain yield of Singwangok, 7.81 ton/ha, was similar to that of Jangdaok. The seed production of Singwangok was well processed due to the good match during crossing between the seed parent, KS172 and the pollen parent, KS173, in Yeongwol; the F1 seed yield was 3.84ton/ha. Singwangok would be a suitable cultivar to all plain areas in Korea.
