이 연구의 목적은 고대부터 현재까지 일본 궁도의 전개 과정을 고찰했으며, 이를 통해서 시기별 일본 궁도의 특징 및 그 무도사적 가치를 밝히는데 두었다. 일본 궁도는 고대 죠몬(Zyomon)시대부터 야요이(Yayoi)시대를 거쳐는 동안에 일상적인 수렵 도구에서 전쟁을 수행하는 투쟁의 도구로 발전했다. 이후 국가 형태가 조성되어 나라를 다스리는 지배계층에서 활과 화살을 신비로운 기기로 숭상하며 자리이(射礼, Jarai)라는 의례 행사로 받아들여 매년 개최되었다. 근세시대인 에도(Eto)시대에 들어와 무사들의 심신 수양과 기예의 탐구를 통해서 예도의 세계를 더욱 다듬고 발전시키는 수단으로 이용되었다. 궁도의 실천을 무사가 갖추어야 할 덕목으로 삼고, 궁사와 양생을 연결한 새로운 건강관리를 추구하기도 했다. 현대에 들어와서는 실용적인 궁도를 지향해 성별이나 체격, 체력, 연령 등에 좌우되지 않고 많은 사람이 심신단련을 위해 참여하는 무도스포츠로 주목받고 있다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the development process of Japanese archery from ancient times to the present, and to clarify the characteristics and historical value of Japanese archery according to the period. Japanese archery From the Zyomon period to the Yayoi period, it developed from a routine hunting tool to a tool of struggle to wage war. Since then, a national form has been established and bows and arrows are revered as mystical instruments by the ruling class who governed the country, and accepted as a ritual event called Jarai (射礼, Jarai) and held annually. In the Eto period, it was used as a means to further refine and develop Yedo through the samurai’s mental and physical training and exploration of skills. He made the practice of archery a virtue that a warrior should have, and pursued a new health care that linked the archer and his health. In modern society, aiming for practical archery, it is attracting attention as a lifestyle sports that many people participate in for mental and physical training regardless of gender, physique, physical strength, or age.
