The objective of the study is to compare theoretical displacement and strain values with those obtained from experiment. The elastic load method was used to obtain the theoretical values. For comparison purpose, H-beams were tested using a three point bending test method. The load-displacement and load-strain curves from the experiment were compared to those from the theory. According to the comparison, displacement was in good agreement with less than 10% difference. Strain values showed difference ranging from approximately 11 to 30%.

The purpose of this experimental study is to increase the strength of mortar mixed with activated Hwang-Toh (AHT) and granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) as a compound for the development of eco-friendly concrete. The compressive strength test was carried out by making mortar specimens with a certain ratio of AHT and GGBS. The percentage of AHT were at 30% and 50% and the GGBS were a 40% and 50% as Major variables. The results of this study showed that for specimens with percentage of AHT at 30% with GGBS increased above the strength of the mortar without the binding. However, the compressive strength of experimentation with percentage of AHT at 50% with partially replace GGBS has decreased by more than the mortar without the binding. Therefore, further study is deemed necessary.

Structural analysis and tests were conducted for a carbody manufactured by aluminum alloy. The results were compared, and structural safety was evaluated based on the results. Aluminum carbody in Kwangju turned out safe in terms of structural strength.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept design and the structural strength of the double-deck rolling stock vehicle. Aluminum is very useful material for the carbody structure due to its characteristic of light weight. Large aluminum extrusion profiles(panels) have lots of merits such as easy production of complicated shapes, reduction of welding and cutting lines, and cutting down the labor cost. AED type is being applied to the standard EMUs and the EMUs Kwangju subway in Korea. Light material recommended the double-deck rolling stock vehicle because the center of gravity of the train is higher and its weight is heavier than those of the normal vehicle. So we applied the technology of the large aluminum extrusion profiles(panels) to the double-deck vehicle. We performed the structural strength analysis and examined its safety.

Weight minimization of double-deck train carbody is imperative to reduce cost and extend life-time of train. It is required to decide 36 thickness of aluminum extruded panels. However, the design variables are two many to tract. moreover, one execution of structural analysis of double-deck carbody is time-consuming. Therefore, we adopt approximation technique to save computational cost of optimization process. Response surface model is used to apporximate static response of double-deck carbody. To obtain plausible response surface model, orthogonal array is empolyed as design of experiment(DOE). Design improvement by approximate model-based optimization is described. Accuracy and efficiency of optimization by using response surface model are discussed.

The bogie of high speed freight car running on conventional line is welded bogie modeled on Y25 bogie developed in Europe. Y25 bogie has speed limit of 110㎞/h. But it has limiting factors to speed-up as increasing maintenance cost and friction parts pedestal. And also it was reported that cracks are found in the parts where center beam meet bolster and end beam near bracket for braking part. This study includes stress analysis improved structure of welded bogie for strength evaluation by numerical method and experimental method. According to the study, new configuration bogie shows improvement in strength.

Barber bogie and Y25 bogie is the main bogie of freight car which is used in the Korean railway. In case of Barber bogie and a mixed formation the maximum speed limit of empty car is 70 km/h and that of loaded car is 90 ㎞/h, and also it runs a speed of 110 ㎞/h in time of an exclusive formation of Y25 bogie. The car named as high speed freight car at present is Y25 bogie which modeled on the Y25 bogie or Europe developed in 1993. Y25 bogie has no problem about the running capacity up to the speed of 110 ㎞/h, but it works as limiting factors to the increasing cost of maintenance and repair expenses which caused by repair of bogie and the cost of materials. This study is going to describe the contents examined by analysis and tests, aimed at being used as an index of plan in the future through the strength test of high speed freight car which is used now.
