Wear amount of the metal bearing is one of major measures to evaluate bearing life time. In this study, the wear amount of metal-clad bearing was measured when metal bearing was operated at the same test conditions compared with the real working conditions on internal combustion engine. By the experimental results, second-order response surface model for predicting the wear amount of metal-clad bearing was developed. The selection technique for working conditions to decrease a dissipated heat coefficient was proposed and the prediction accuracy of the developed response surface model was examined by comparison between experimental data and predicted results. It was seen that the developed second-order response surface model was very useful for predicting the wear amount of metal-clad bearing.
