        Advanced Cardiac MR Imaging for Myocardial Characterization and Quantification: T1 Mapping

        Magnetic resonance as an imaging modality provides an excellent soft tissue differentiation, which is an ideal choice for cardiac imaging. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) allows myocardial tissue characterization, as well as comprehensive evaluation of the structures. Al-though late gadolinium enhancement after injection of the gadolinium extracellular contrast agent has further extended our ability to characterize the myocardial tissue, it also has limitations in the quantification of enhanced myocardial tissue pathology, and the detection of diffuse myocardial disease, which is not easily recognized by enhancement contrast. Recently, the remarkable advances in CMR tech-nique, such as T1 mapping, which can quantitatively evaluate myocardial status, showed potentials to overcome limitations of existing CMR sequences and to expand the application of CMR. This article will review the technical and clinical points to be considered in the prac-tical use of pre- and post-contrast T1 mapping. (Korean Circ J 2013;43:1-6)

        Outdoor (1→3)-β-D-glucan Levels and Related Climatic Factors

        Objectives: To evaluate the monthly variation in the airborne (1→3)-β-D-glucan level throughout one year and its relationship with climatic factors (temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, hours of daylight, cloud cover, and pollen counts). Methods: A total of 106 samples were collected using a two-stage cyclone sampler at five outdoor sampling locations (on top of 5 university buildings). The kinetic limulus amebocyte lysate assay was used to obtain (1→3)-β-D-glucan levels. Results: Airborne (1→3)-β-D-glucan levels were significantly higher in the spring, particularly in April, and temperature was significantly related to (1→3)-β-D-glucan levels (r =0.339, p<0.05). Conclusions: (1→3)-β-D-glucan levels may be highest in the spring, and outdoor temperature may influence (1→3)-β-D-glucan levels.

        낙동강 유역 주민들의 간흡층 감염에 영향을 주는 개인요인 및 지역요인 분석

        Purpose: This study investigated the factors of clonorchis sinensis infection among the residents in vicinity of the Nakdong River and the infection status of fishes in the stream with clonorchis sinensis maetacercaria. Methods: Selected five regions of the Nakdong River and collected freshwater fishes from the stream to examine their metacercarial infections; and studied the status and causes of clonorchis sinensis infection in 552 residents living within 5 kilometers from the river. Results: Among the 552 residents studied, 13.8% were infected with clonorchis sinensis, and among 379 freshwater fishes of 20 species collected from the five regions, 41 fishes of 8 species were infected with clonorchis sinensis metacercaria. Conclusion: In order to prevent human clonorchis sinensis infection and transition to chronic liver ions, we need to develop and apply good programs such as continuous health education, personal hygiene improvement, active medical treatment for those infected with clonorchis sinensis, and residents’ voluntarily stop of eating freshwater fishes in the raw state.

        ATm(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) has been developed for providing QOS(Quality of Service) guarantees for real-time application. However, the high cost of ATM equipment. The large installed base of TCP/IP-based application, and the lack of application program utilizing pure ATM switched connections has resulted in ATM being used as a lower layer technology at the core of Wide Area Networks, with TCP/IP at the edge. This is evidenced by the increasing deployment of ATM networks in the building of high-speed Internet and intranet backbones. This paper is an attempt to study for TCP performance over ATM networks. this paper will therefore be valuable to anyone who needs to understand the performance issues and answers for running TCP-based applications over ATM networks. We discuss to avoid cell loss and minimize the impact of cell loss on TCP performance; buffering at ATM switches and enhancements of UBR service using packet-based discarding scheme. And graduate students doing research on TCP performance will particularly benefit from this paper. As will network administrators and ISP(Internet Service Provider) operators deploying ATM in the backbones of existing TCP/IP networks.

      • ATM 통신단말기와 SET TOP BOX의 개발 동향 분석

        Information and telecommunication technology has emerged as a key element of economic growth and social development of the nation. Due to this importance, many advanced countries have made a constant effort to strengthen the this technology, and in their effort to establish high speed networks. In the current communication environment, there has been an obvious trend towards developing a multimedia and a mutually accessible/connective network. Also increasing the need fro various new service of high speed and multimedia, B-ISDN service is appeared with ATM technology. We also enjoyed B-ISDN services with the ATM terminal which is connected to B-ISDN. The object of this research is to analysis of development trends for ATM terminal equipments and set top box. Through the Analysis of R&D trends for these equipments, we can prospect the ATM terminal and set top box equipments which are appropriate to the Korean society. And this research will be used as a reference to development of ATM terminal equipment and set top box in the near future.

        수중 센서 네트워크에서 노드 그룹화를 통한 전송전력 절약 방안

        본 논문은 수중 센서 네트워크에서 송수신 노드간 거리가 증가함에 따라 통신을 위한 전송전력이 급격하게 증가하는 단점을 효과적으로 극복하여 보다 낮은 전송 전력으로 통신할 수 있도록 하기 위한 방안을 제안한다. 제안한 방식은 각 노드들을 싱크노드로부터의 거리에 따라 몇 개의 그룹으로 나누고, 해당 그룹에 지정된 대역을 활용하게 한다. 즉, 멀리 떨어져 있어 주파수 증가에 따른 감쇠가 큰 노드들은 저주파수를, 가까운 거리에 있어 주파수 증가에 따른 감쇠가 적은 노드들은 고주파수를 활용하여 전체 노드가 일정 수준 이상의 신호 대 잡음비를 유지함으로써 전송전력을 줄일 수 있게 된다. 각 센서노드들의 거리에 따른 주파수 별 신호 감쇠 특징을 활용하여 그룹의 크기에 따라 가변되는 전송전력을 최소화하는 최적 그룹의 크기를 찾고 그룹의 크기에 비례하여 그룹 별 대역을 할당하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안한 방식은 기존의 그룹을 나누지 않는 방식에 비해 10 dB이상 감소된 전송 전력을 보였다. This paper proposes a transmitted power saving method for underwater acoustic sensors considering the acoustic wave propagation characteristic that propagation loss increases more rapidly in higher frequency band. In the proposed scheme, sensor nodes are divided into a few groups based on the distance between sink node and the sensor node, and each group uses its own frequency band. The node group with longer distance uses lower frequency and the node group with shorter distance uses higher frequency. By means of such a distance-dependent frequency allocation, all sensor nodes are able to maintain a certain target signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), but also save transmitted power. In addition, the optimum size of node group is obtained, and also a frequency allocation algorithm is proposed accordingly. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme saves transmitted power by more 10 dB comparing non-grouping methods.

        무선 센서 네트워크에서 IEEE 802.15.4 MAC의 이동성 지원

        전통적인 센서 네트워크는 고가의 센서와 케이블로 연결되어 있어, 센싱 데이터를 수집할 때 유연성이 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다. WSN은 저가의 장비를 사용하고, 임무를 여러 노드에서 나누어서 수행하기 때문에 다각도에서 세밀한 데이터를 수집할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 대한석탄공사의 작업현장에서 IEEE802.15.4 MAC을 이용하여, 채탄 작업환경을 그대로 적용한 채탄토폴로지를 구성하였다. 채탄 작업시에 작업 관리자의 이동성 지원을 위한 모델들을 제안하였고, 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 최적의 모델을 선정하였다. 본 논문의 결과는 대한석탄공사와 다른 광업소에서 WSN을 적용할 때 중요 자료로 사용할 수 있을 것이다. The traditional sensor network is composed of the cable and the sensor of high price, when collecting a sensing data, there is a weak point which is not pliability. WSN uses the equipment of low price, it will be able to collect the data which is diverse from various node. In this paper we composed coal mining topology which used IEEE802.15.4 MAC in Korea Coal Corporation site. We proposed models for the mobility support of the work manager from the coal mining, we selected the optimum model through simulation experiments. When applying the WSN in the Korea Coal Corporation and other mines, this result can be used as a basis.

        지금 우리 주위에는 불과 몇 십년 전만해도 생각하지도 못한 holography, computer graphic, kinethic sculpture, video art등 새로운 種의 예술이 등장하여 주목을 끌고 있다. 이 신종은 돌연변이에 의한 것이 아니라 과학기술의 놀라운 발전에 힘입어 자연발아한 것이다. 그러나 과학의 눈부신 발전은 때로는 경이를, 때로는 그에 상응하는 불신과 우려를 낳았다. 특히 과학이 정신문화에 끼치는 영향의 강도가 커짐에 따라 더욱 많은 갈등을 낳았다. 그러나 과학이란 우리 인간에게는 확실히 프로메테우스의 불로서 그것의 편리함, 신속함, 정확함 또 합리성 등은 그것을 다루는 사람에게는 커다란 능력이 되었다. 그러면 전자과학, 특히 현재 많이 이야기되는 반도체 공학이 이루어낸 놀라운 악기 "전자음악 신데사이저(Electronic Music Synthesizer)"에 대하여 그것이 나오기까지와 악기로서의 기능, 구조 등을 간단히 알아 보기로 하자.
