This study was performed to evaluate the effects of lovastatin on steroid induced adipogenesis and osteonecrosis. Thirty-two white rabbits weighting between 2,500gm to 3,000gm were divided into four groups. Group Ⅰwas composed of 12 rabbits that received methylprednisolone acetate 5 ㎎/Kg weekly via intramuscular injection for 12 weeks. Goup Ⅱwas composed of 12 rabbits that received methylprednisolone acetate as in Group Ⅰplus lovastatin 20 ㎎per day orally for 12 weeks. Group Ⅲ was composed of 4 rabbits treated with 20mg of lovastatin per day for 12 weeks. Group Ⅳwas com-posed of 4 rabbits that received no medication. The rabbits’ femoral heads were removed at 4, 8, 12 and 16 weeks in Group Ⅰ,Ⅱand at 8 and 16 weeks in the Group Ⅲand Ⅳ. The histologic changes of the subchondral bone and bone marrow were observed. In Group Ⅰ, there was thinning or necrosis of the subchondral bone, cyst formation, edema or necrosis of fat cells, and decreased or loss of hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow. In Group Ⅱ, there were similar findings as in group I at 4 and 8 weeks, however, necrosis of fat cells and subchondral bone were not observed at 16 weeks. In Group Ⅲand Ⅳ, there were no changes. In conclusion, the lipid clearing agent, lovastatin seems to be helpful in decreasing or delaying the development of steroid induced osteonecrosis. However, clinical application of lovastatin for the treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head is needed.

Linear regression analysis is a commonly used tech- in analyzing method comparison data. If a lin- relationship between the test and reference method can be defined, then the slope and intercept of this line can provide estimates of the proportional and constant error between the two methods. ever if the basic assumptions underlying the least squares model are not met, the estimated line may be incorrect. The least-squares regression method may give two very disparate lines, depending on whether X or Y is used as the independant variable. Neither line expresses the functional relationship bet ween the true values of X and Y : both are altered by errors of measurement in the independant variant. In contrast, the slope and the intercept which accurately represented the relation between X and Y could be estimated in linear structural relationship. The Syncron CX5, a random access type analyzer used for routine clinical chemistry determinations, was compared to the Gilford 203S. The analysis of data obtained by running serum samples in parallel on two instruments indicates that the Beckman CX5 does not correlate well with the Gilford 203S.

Under the present fee-fur-service paying system in medical insurance, over uti1izatiun of services is inevitable leading to financial deficit of medical insurance eventually. Fortunately the government tried to develop Koreanized DRG/PPS for years and we can Look forward to seeing its implementation even though the commencement was postponed 2001. Most c1inical laboraturies in the medical institutiuns were knuwn as profit centers because they can yield earnings as much accurding tu the amuunt uf urder frum v,따iuus departments in the institutiun. If the DRG/pPS system is in furce, the amuunt of paying fur the services ufferedtu a patient uf certain categurized disease will be flat irrespective uf the service vulume. Cunsequent1y must hospitals will be cuncemed about the efficiency ever mure rendering their services as less as possible. Already hospitals are relying un managerial solutions to cut the cost against the coming fmancial difficulties. Among the strategies they are pursuing TQM, Restructuring, Downsizing, Process Improvement, Job redesign and Cultural change can be their major interests. As a subsystem of the medical institutiun, the laboratory could be a cost center incurring mure Cost if they du mure tests for the same patient. Each laboratury has to consider about the situatiunal changes and establish its uwn strategies based un cost-effective test uti1izatiun. The distinct two points wi11 be the effective management and cost-saving in the laboratury. Nuw we should try to find possible sulutions fur the efficient laboratory through TQM, EBM, Standardization of medical care, Critical Path, Downsizing, Restructuring and Reengineering.

CRP measurement has been used in order to estimate the degree of acute inflammation or tissue necrosis caused by v:따ious factors, A lot of quantitative methods adopting different principle have been shown up since the international standards for CRP were confmned by IFCC. Through the ROC analysis the authors want to presents the efficiency of the quantitative CRP measurement among the patients who came to the emergency room of a university hospital appearing chest pains.
IMx Glycated Hemoglobin측정법에 관한 연구

Percent glycated hemoglobin(%GHb) is an indirect measure of the mean blood glucose level in an individual over the previous two to three months. A fully automated assay for quantitating %GHb in human whole blood has been developed using the Abbot IMx R analyzer. The assay is accomplished by specific solution phase tagging of glycated hemoglobin by a soluble polyanionic affinity reagent, and subsequent capture of the anionic complex by a cationic solid phase matrix. Both glycated hemoglobin(GHb) and total hemoglobin(Hb) are quantitated by measuring quenching of the fluorescence from an added dye by home. A correlation study was conducted accross IMx R instruments with fully automated HPLC (Hi-Auto A_(IC TM), Kyoto Daiiclii co.) as the reference assay. The correlation statistics obtained for 20 diabetic specimens were: IMx=0.84 HPLC+1.75, correlation coefficient= 0.969. Studies from linear relationship statistics had showed that there ere no evidence for difference between two methods. IMx glycated hemoglobin assay was don-sidered to be compatible with HPLC method.

Comparison of methods studies should compare results by new or proposed method with those by a reference quality method or other generally accepted analytical method for which the performance is documented. The least squares method is frequently used to calculate the slope and intercept of the best line through a set of data points. However, least squares regression slopes and intercepts may be incorrect if the underlying assumptions of the least squares model are not met. Latest in the line of Hitachi systems, the Hitachi 747 is a high volume, random access system. It has capabilities for running states, automatic return of samples with a smaller volume, parameters for serum/plasma and urine, and multitasking capability. We performed method comparison studies against the current method for 8 different analytes with 49 samples for each chemistry. Also, Data analysis was performed according to the Kuwa protocol. The results of statistical studies indicate an acceptable performance over a clinically relevant range. We conclude that the Hitachi 747 analyzer is a reliable, precise and accurate system for routine clinical analytes. Its convenience and simplicity make it superior to the current autoanalyzer for our clinical applications in a hospital setting.
