This study examines the development process of Chinese character type through Arita Heiti, which was developed from 2013 to 2017 for over five years. Unique features of Chinese character type are discussed with the differences to Hangeul types. First, Chinese character types are classified into Calligraphy style and Print style. Their features and differences are analysed. Detailed types of Songti and Heiti, which are most widely developed and used, are classified, evaluated and studied. The significance is searched from the design planning and direction of Arita Heiti development process. The difference between Chinese character type and Hangeul type are examined. In the development scope, the management system of Chinese character types, which are relatively clearly divided according to the country and usage, are studied. In design features, the detailed features of types based on three foundation roots are studied. In addition, Hangeul type license management system is discussed in relation to the Chinese character type license management system. The development process of Arita Heiti can not represent the development process of overall Chinese character type. Yet, I hope the difference between Chinese character type and Hangeul type learned in this process will contribute to the bright future of Hangeul type.
