Revolution of the basis(or transformation of consciousness) indicates a sudden revulsion, turning or re-turning of the storehouse consciousness back into its original state of purity. That is to say, through revolution of the basis, the seven lower consciousness which create the egoistic discrimination of an external world based on the dualism of subject and object are eliminated, as are the habit-energies or habitual perfumings of the storehouse consciousness, so that the Mind returns to its original condition of non-attachment, non-discrimination and non-duality. Ordinary sentient beings who are not aware of the dependent nature of the world are attached to discriminated nature. This is the dualistic world of unenlightened people in which subject and object are falsely discriminated. If one can eliminate the discrimination completely and see the dependent nature of all things, then the discriminated nature is transformed into perfected nature. Both the possibility of unenlightened people`s false discrimination and their transformation into perfected nature are originated from the dependent nature. There is a vast gap between the discriminated nature and the perfected nature. However disconnected these two natures may seem, the gap is created by the discriminative acts of unenlightened sentient beings, and is therefore illusory. Thus, the removal of this illusory gap created by the artificial distinctions of discriminated nature shifts us to the world of perfected nature where dependent origination functions properly.
