The purpose of this study was to investigate the response characteristics of the Korean LDS of toddlers suffering from language developmental delay. The participants comprised 135 toddlers who were 18 to 35 months old. They were assessed at a child psychiatry clinic and rehabilitation centers in Seoul. The K-BSID-II and the Korean LDS were used as the measuring tools. The results were as follows: First, the Vocabulary scores and Mental scales of the 18 to 23 month old subjects showed a significantly positive correlation. The Vocabulary scores, Phrase length scores and Mental scales of the 24 to 35 months old subjects showed significantly positive correlations. Second, the Vocabulary scores revealed no differences between toddlers with or without language delay who were in the 18 to 23 months old group. The Vocabulary scores and Phrase length scores of -the 24 to 35 months group suffering from language delay was significantly lower than the normal language development group. In addition, the effect size of- Vocabulary scores was moderate compared to low Phrase length scores. This study verified the validity of the Korean LDS as a very useful tool for assessing language development delay in toddlers.
To Minimize the Weighted Number of Early and Tardy Jobs in a Two-machine Flow Shop
Vol.21 No.1
In this paper, we consider a two-machine flow shop scheduling problem with different job due dates. The objective is to minimize the weighted number of early and tardy jobs. We present a mixed integer programming formulation for the problem and develop efficient cut constraints which are valid inequalities. Extensive experiments are conducted to show the effectiveness of the cut constraints. We propose an O(n²) heuristic algorithm to solve the problem.
Neural Tract Injuries by Penetration of Foreign Body: a Diffusion Tensor Tractography Study
Vol.25 No.3
We presented with a patient who showed injury of the cingulum and fornix by penetration of a foreign body into the brain on diffusion tensor tractography (DTT). A 63-year-old man suffered a brain injury by a part of a power saw blade that was suddenly detached from a power saw during work. A part of the power saw blade penetrated his right frontal skull and advanced to the right posterior horn of the lateral ventricle. This penetration caused traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage in the right frontal lobe and intraventricular hemorrhage in the lateral ventricle. He underwent craniotomy and removal of intracranial foreign bodies (bony pieces and saw blade). The patient’s Memory Assessment Scale scores were 74 (4%ile) for global memory, 78 (7%ile) for verbal memory, and 80 (9%ile) for visual memory. DTTs showed disruptions in the anterior portion of the fornical body, right fornical crus, the anterior portion of the right cingulum, and the middle portion of the left cingulum, compared to the control. It seems that the sustained memory impairment of this patient might be related to injury of the cingulum and fornix.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to find out which exercise is more effective for the activation of the trunk, when the suspension plank and modified bridge exercise are performed. Weakening of the trunk muscles can lead to secondary injuries such as back injuries. In order to prevent injury, trunk muscles must be strengthened, and representative trunk strengthening exercises include planks and bridges. Each has been developed with a modified method, but since there is no paper comparing which exercise is more effective for trunk muscle strength, it was written to compare the two exercises. METHODS: The subjects were a random sample of 30 healthy men who agreed to participate in the study. The subjects were divided into two groups of 15 people each, and the suspension plank and the modified bridge exercise were performed for six weeks. The thickness of the transverse abdominis (TrA), internal abdominal oblique (IO), external abdominal oblique (EO), rectus abdominis (RA), multifidus (MF) was measured before and after the exercise. The two groups were analyzed using an independent t-test and paired t-test to compare the muscle thickness and the difference before and after exercise. RESULTS: The trunk muscle thickness was increased in both groups with suspension plank and modified bridge exercise, and there was a statistically significant difference. When comparing the two groups, the suspension plank group also showed a significant difference in RA (p<.05). CONCLUSION: As a result of this study, suspension plank exercise can have a positive effect on activating the trunk muscles and strengthening the strength of RA. Therefore, it is considered that suspension plank exercise is a more effective intervention to strengthen trunk muscle than modified bridge exercise.

PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of ankle kinesio taping on the balanced control capabilities of normal adults, stroke patients, and musculoskeletal patients. METHODS: One thousand articles were searched, and 100 of them were selected as taping papers. Subsequently, 33 papers classified according to balance, muscle strength and pain were analyzed according to the effect size and age group. RESULTS: The effect of ankle kinesio taping on balance control was examined by dividing the effect size into three groups according to the type of disease. Studies with normal adults had a large effect size of 1.213, whereas the effect size of stroke studies was .377, which was small. Studies on musculoskeletal disorders had a large effect size of 1.429. All three groups did not include 0 in the 95% confidence interval, indicating a significant effect. CONCLUSION: The effect of kinesio taping on balance control was positive in all subjects, including normal adults, stroke patients, and musculoskeletal patients. On the other hand, in terms of the effect size of kinesio taping on balance control, musculoskeletal patients and normal adults had larger effect sizes than stroke patients.
