본 논문은 신소설 작가로 알려진 이해조의 논문인 <윤리학> 텍스트를 분석하여 개화기의 교육사상적 이해를 시도한 것이다. 우선, 개화기 교육사상의 근저를 이루는 동도서기론과 사회진화론(문명개화론)이 전개되는 역사적 맥락에서 이해조의 교육론의 내부적 관련성을 탐색하여 그의 윤리학의 의미론적 배경을 구성하고자 했다. 이해조는 이 논문에서 서구 과학에 필적할 만한 새로운 윤리학을 제시했다. 이로써 개화기 교육사상의 윤리학적 측면과, 또한 당시 지성계의 담론인 사회진화론과 동도서기론의 교육학 영역에서의 적용을 살필 수 있게 되었다. 서세동점의 시기인 20세기 초 동아시아가 직면한 名[윤리, 이념]과 實[현실]의 커다란 간극을 해소하려는 것이 바로 이해조의 윤리학의 의도이다. 그것은 자기의 관념을 새롭게 정리하여 각성한 국민 창출을 도모하고, 가족윤리와 사회윤리를 재정립하여 근대사회라는 현실에 부합하는 새로운 윤리, 이념을 창출하는 것이다. 그 노력은 각성한 자아[自己], 수신으로서의 전통적 윤리관[私德], 처세로서의 덕육[公德]의 실천 등으로 요약할 수 있다. In this study, I could conform Lee’s establishment of the Eastern ways and Western frames in educational thought of Korea which compromise with Confucianism and Western science. With that we could see the inner site of educational thought in the enlightenment period. And in this analysis of Lee’s Ethics I could could research the application of Social Darwinism and Eastern ways and Western frames to educational realities. East Asia in the early 20th century which was the era of Western wave to East has confronted a great gap between ideology and reality, and then in Lee’s Ethics he has tried to close the gap between Eastern ethics and Western science. For the achievement of goal he has created the new ethics, ideology which are correspondent with modern society by renewing the idea of self, by reestablishing family ethics and social ethics. Therefore, his Ethics could be summarized as follows, awakening self, practicing the moral training which is private virtue[私德] in traditional ethics, conduct of life which is public virtue[公德] in modern ethics.

본 논문은 김철의 저작에 나타난 통일 관련 제안 및 논의들을 중심으로 그의 통일론을 추적하고 재구성하여 그의 통일론의 역사적 의미를 밝히고자 했다. 특히 그가 수용한 민주적 사회주의가 민족통일과 어떠한 관련성을 지니는지를 중심 과제로 하여, 그가 제시한 통일제안들이 지니는 정치적 의미와 함께 규명하고자 했다. 김철의 통일론에 내재된 사상은 민족주의, 민주주의, 사회주의, 평화주의 등이다. 그러한 사상들은 상호작용하면서 그의 통일론의 내부구조를 형성하면서 그 내용을 풍부하게 채우며 체계화되는 과정을 확인했다. 김철에게 있어 민주적 사회주의는 민족통일의 내적 조건이고 비동맹중립은 민족통일의 외적 조건이다. 김철의 통일론에서 국내적으로는 민주적 사회주의를 통한 민주주의의 실현과 국외적으로는 비동맹중립화 통일이 서로 결합되어 있음을 확인했다. 유신독재 치하에서의 민주회복운동과, 대미(對美) 독자노선을 추구하는 SI 및 비동맹·중립화 세력과의 국제적 연대를 통한 다변적 통일 구상이 이를 증명한다고 하겠다. 김철의 통일론의 내부적 구성요소로 작용하는 민주적 사회주의는, 일반적 국가의 실현 과제이기도 하지만, 동서냉전으로 분단된 남북 각각의 공산주의의 유제와 자본주의의 모순 양자의 변증법적 지양을 실현해내는 세계사적 의의를 지닌다. 그러므로 보편적 적용으로서의 사회주의와, 동서이념으로 분단되어 냉전의 유제가 온존하는 마지막 지역 문제의 세계사적 해결책으로서의 사회주의가 동시에 요구되는 이중의 의의를 지닌다고 하겠다. This essay explores the historical significance of Kim Chul``s theory concerned in national unification which is presented in his works related at the programs of unification. Especially, this essay try to investigate the relationship in democratic socialism and national unification as a central subject of this research, and investigate the historical and practical meanings of unification programs which are suggested by Kim Chul. The ideas which are implied in Kim Chul’s unification theory are nationalism, democracy, socialism, and pacifism. In this essay I try to investigate the process in which these ideas construct the inner structure by mutually interacting, and complete the plentiful contents. On Kim Chul’s perspective, democratic socialism is the inner condition of national unification, nonalignment-neutrality is the outer condition of national unification. In this essay I try to investigate the combination with realization of democracy and unification by nonalignment, and verify the relation inner and outer in the combination which is presented in a pro-democracy movement against Yushin regime and a multilateral unification strategy by international solidarity which could be constructed with SI and nonalignment block to pursue independent diplomacy against USA. Democratic socialism, even if the task of general states, which works as a constituent of Kim Chul``s unification theory, could imply the meaning of world history which would realize the dialectic Aufheben between the vestiges of communism and the contradiction of capitalism. Therefore, there are dual meanings simultaneously, socialism as a general application and socialism as a global solution about the regional problems of the last divided country which has been derived from the Cold War.
