니콜라 부리오의 관계미학 관점에서 본 도큐멘타15(2022) 연구 - 루앙루파의 커뮤니티 예술 실천을 중심으로 -

20세기 후반, 세계화의 영향으로 국제 비엔날레가 확산되었으나, 여전히 서구중심주의와 일부 권력 있는 큐레이터들에 의해 주도되었다. 동시대 미술의 전위적 국제 전시인 도큐멘타 역시 백인, 서양, 세계적인 아티스트 중심주의에서 자유롭지 못했다. 이를 극복하기 위해 2022년 도큐멘타 15에서는 역사상 처음으로 제3세계 출신 인도네시아 아티스트 콜렉티브 루앙루파(Ruangrupa)가 총감독으로 선정되었다. 본 연구는 루앙루파의 도큐멘타15 총감독 선정이 서구중심 예술계를 넘어 일으킨 새로운 물결의 의의와 그들의 예술적 실천과 니콜라 부리오의 관계미학의 유사성을 규명한다. 연구 방법과 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 도큐멘타의 역사와 루앙루파의 감독 선정 배경을 고찰하고, 인터뷰를 통해 도큐멘타15의 궁극적 목표가 ‘좋은 친구 되기’의 세계적 확장임을 확인하였다. 둘째, 니콜라 부리오의 『관계의 미학』을 통해 관계미학의 핵심 개념인 ‘마이크로 유토피아(Micro-Utopia), 참여성(Participation), 전이성(Transivite)’을 도출하였다. 셋째, 현장방문과 관찰을 통해 도큐멘타15의 주요 전시공간에서 드러난 관계미학과 관객 참여방식을 분석하였다. 예술가와 지역사회가 협력하여 스케이트보드 워크숍을 진행하고, 공동 텃밭에서 재배한 채소로 공용 식당을 운영하는 등 국제 미술전이 지역과 세계를 잇는 만남과 관계 맺기의 장이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 도큐멘타 15가 루앙루파의 예술적 실천의 연장선이며, 지역과 세계의 교차점에서 ‘만남과 관계맺기의 장’이 되었음을 밝힌다. 또한, 제3세계 예술적 실천에 대한 관심을 넓히고 지속 가능한 공동체 문화를 지향하는 진정한 세계화의 의미를 담은 전시와 실천적 담론이 지속되기를 기대한다. Globalization led to the proliferation of international biennales in the late 20th century, but these remained dominated by Western-centric perspectives and powerful curators. Documenta, a leading contemporary art exhibition, was not immune to these biases. To address this, documenta fifteen in 2022 appointed the Indonesian artist collective Ruangrupa, marking the first time a Third World collective directed the event. This study investigates how Ruangrupa's directorship disrupted Western-centric paradigms and aligns with Nicolas Bourriaud's relational aesthetics. The methodology includes a historical review of Documenta, interviews to elucidate documenta fifteen's goals of global 'friendship,' and an analysis of key relational aesthetics concepts―'micro-utopia,' 'participation,' and 'transitivity.' Field observations were conducted to examine audience engagement and relational practices in the main exhibition venues of documenta fifteen. The findings demonstrate that documenta fifteen, as an extension of Ruangrupa's Jakarta-based practices, established a nexus for local and global interaction. This study underscores the significance of incorporating Third World artistic practices and advocates for exhibitions and discourses that embody sustainable community culture and genuine globalization. Additionally, it calls for ongoing multidisciplinary discourse on exhibitions through the lens of relational aesthetics.
