        모바일 폰 한글입력방식의 유니버셜 디자인에 관한 연구

        A few people are frequently using Korean text entry function in the mobile phone. To make matters worse, too many kinds of Korean text entry methods exist in the market, compelling mobile phone users to learn how to input texts all over again, whenever they purchase a new mobile phone. The purpose of this study is to propose a universal design of Korean text entry method for mobile phones. Several experiments and several questionnaire surveys were conducted in order to induce design factors for the universal design. Participants were mobile phone users with the diverse levels of text entry expertise and with the diverse ages. The results of this investigation were identical, irrespective of participants' age and expertise. The efficiency of the text entry method was not more important factor than memorability. The layout of vowels to keypad was preferred to map just 3 strokes to the 3 buttons so that users can make for themselves vowels that they want to input. The preference on the consonants layout was different according to investigation methods. According to the survey, it was preferred that consonants were arranged by alphabet order. However, the result of text entry speed measurement was that the arrangement by alphabet order was not superior to the typical arrangement. Such results may be used to design mobile phones for diverse users.

        Human error analysis has been performed to prevent accidents and reduce human error rate in diverse contexts; manufacturing, aircraft and nuclear power plants. Until now, human error in our everyday lives has not been focused. This paper addressed human error when users go up and down elevator. First of all, human error types of elevator users were categorized by a taxonomy of unsafe acts. It was also investigated which types of human error occurred in the elevator. Finally display design guidelines were suggested to reduce human error in elevator. Auditorial display and visual display can be used to reduce human errors in elevator. Future study should be performed to check if the proposed design guidelines are effective in the real situations.

        경험에 따른 항해사 상황인식의 변화

        Situation awareness (SA) of the officers of watch (OOW) was evaluated. The goals of the situation awareness evaluation was to compare the SA of inexperienced OOW and the SA of experienced OOW. A full mission bridge simulator was used to measure their SA ability. As a result, there were some differences in acquiring information related to given situation between inexperienced OOW and experienced OOW. The inexperienced OOW generated false alarm and miss error. However, there was no differences in level 2 and level 3 of SA. To support insufficient SA ability of the inexperienced OOW, some training programs on visual search is required and interface of ARPA radar should be developed to control the radar as possible as quickly under time pressure.

      • Fitts' Law에 의한 이동전화 한글입력방식의 평가

        현재 이동전화의 기능은 음성을 전달하는 본연의 기능뿐만 아니라 문자를 전달하는 수단으로 그 용도가 확대되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 국내에서 사용되고 있는 3종의 한글입력방식의 효율성을 Fitts' law를 이용하여 비교 평가하였다. 기존에 한글입력 인터페이스에 대한 연구가 이루어졌으나, 그 연구는 임의의 세 문장(단문 1개: 사랑해, 중문 1개: 지금 전화해줘, 장문 1개: 늦을 것 같으니까 기다려줘)을 선택하여 연구를 수행함에 따라 그 연구결과를 일반화(Generalization)하기 곤란한 단점을 내포하고 있었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기존연구의 단점을 보완하기 위하여 이동전화 단말기 사용자들이 빈번히 사용하는 100 개 단어를 선별하고, 이 단어들을 입력하는 과정에서의 3가지 한글업력방식의 효율성을 비교평가 하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 기존연구의 결과와는 상이하게 다른 한글입력방식이 더 효율적인 것으로 나타났다(기존연구는 A형, 본 연구에서는 C형이 우수). This study was conducted to compare the efficiency of Hangul input systems on mobile phones. Human performances in three different Hangul input systems were investigated using Fitts' law. Although Hangul input systems was researched by Kim et. al. (2002), it was difficult to generalize the result, because the study was performed only for three Hangul sentences. This study was conducted on 100 words which is frequently input in mobile phones. The result of this study was different from that of previous study. Type C mobile phone needed the shorter input time, rather than type A.

        안전벨트 착용과정에서 무의식적 행위와 착용비율

        Seat belt is an important means to protect drivers and passengers from the damages by car accidents. Many ways to increase the seat belt wearing rate have been proposed through human factors researches. The primary ways to increase seat belt use rate have emphasized the intention-behavior cycle. This study focused on the gap between intention and behavior. The gap may be bridged by the habit for seat belt use behavior. Divers following a desirable car starting sequence, from sitting on the chair, fastening seat belt, starting engine to moving a car, reported that higher belt wearing rate and unconscious behavior (automated response). That is, the habitualized procedure knowledge prevented drivers from forgetting to fasten their seat belt. The reminder systems such as warning light and warning sound could not significantly give an influence in remembering to fasten seat belt. In order to increase the seat belt use rate, the desirable car starting procedure should be included in the driving education program.

        운전자의 방향지시등 사용에 영향을 주는 요인들

        Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate several factors that affect the drivers" turn signal light usage. Background: If drivers" use of the turn signals increases, the traffic accident rate can be significantly lowered. Many countries are making a variety of efforts to increase the driver"s use of turn signals. However, studies on factors affecting the use of turn signal lights have not yet been conducted in various ways. Method: Observational study and questionnaire study were conducted together. In the observational study, we observed how the turn signal usage rate varied by six variables; four situations in which the driver should use the turn signal lights, the driving time, the driving location, the driver"s use of the safety seat belt, the driver"s sex and whether or not the vehicle in front of the observed vehicle uses turn signal lights. In the questionnaire study, participants were asked two questions; of the situations in which the driver must use the turn signal lights, the situation with the highest priority and why not using the turn signal lights. Results: As a result of observational study, the usage rate of turn signal light was 67.3%. According to the result of the Chi-square test, the usage rate of the turn signal light was different according to five factors among the six factors. There was no difference in the usage rate of turn signal light according to driver"s sex. The results of the questionnaire study showed that the priority of using turn signal lights was lowest in the situation of lane change and that the most important reason why drivers do not use turn signal lights was that there is no rear vehicle. Conclusion: According to the observational study, drivers" turn signal light usage was variable due to various factors. This may be because many drivers do not use the turn signal lights unconsciously and tend to use the turn signal lights selectively depending on the circumstances. The tendency to use no turn signal in the absence of the following vehicle, as shown in the results of the survey, also mean that drivers do not unconsciously use turn signals. In order to improve the level of traffic safety, it is necessary to increase the factors that have a positive effect on the usage rate of the turn signal lights, and at the same time encourage drivers to use the turn signal lights habitually. Application: The results of this research can be useful in designing a plan to increase the driver"s turn signal light usage rate.
