The thermal and ultrasonic pre-treatments and anaerobic degradation test were conducted to investigate the effect on solubilization and biodegradability of microalgae. First, we analyzed the chemical characteristics of microalgae. The VS(Volatile Solid) was 87% of TS(Total Solid). Microalgae consisted of 63.5% of protein, 23.6% of carbohydrate and 16.1% of lipid, respectively. And the chemical components were 51.5% of C, 28.3% of O, 9.5% of N, 7.5% of H, and 2.0% of P, respectively. Second, we conducted solubilization test of raw algae. In thermal(95℃) and ultrasonic(20kw) pre-treatment time, respectively. The ultrasonic treatment was more effective than thermal treatment only except for carbohydrate. Third, we conducted batch test of anaerobic degradation to compare between biodegradability of treated and untreated ones. In VFA(Volatile Fatty Acid), acetic acid was only detected after thermal treatment, while ultrasonic treatment was detected acetic, propionic, butylic and valeric acid. The concentrations of total VFAs after ultrasonic treatment were higher than that after thermal treatment. Especially, the concentration of propionic acid was the highest after ultrasonic treatment. In spite of the increase of soluble material by pre-treatment, the gas and methane productivities of pretreated cases were lower than than of case. We suspect that the low methane productivity may be due to the undesirable material generated by thermal and ultrasonic treatment.
Alum과 Chitosan을 이용한 도축장 폐수 슬러지의 비료화 가능성 연구

For the sake of reusing the organic sludge into resources, we should decrease the amount of inorganic chemicals such as alum and polymer, added in the process of treating the organic wastewater. The sludge added with those inorganic coagulants has been a problem in the utilization of sludge. In this research, We performed experiment using sludge prepared with coagulants in Order to assess the possibility of reutilization of slaughterhouse wastewater. We prepared sludge by using alum, an inorganic coagulant, and chitosan, known as a harmless organic coagulant, Then, we carried out a gushing-out test on seven heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Cr, Cd, As, Hg, Pb) with the sludge we prepared. The result showed that the sludge coagulated by alum contained less heavy metals than the sludge coagulated by chitosan.

The work on the eutropication of Youngsan river was conducted from Jul. 1997 to Jun. 1998. The value of water temperature in the study area varied from 4℃ to 32℃ with an annual mean of 17.5℃. DO varied from 4.0㎎/ℓ to 13.5㎎/ℓ with an annual mean 10.2 ㎎/ℓ. BOD varied from 0.8㎎/ℓ to 6.4㎎/ℓ with an annual mean 3.1㎎/ℓ. COD varied from 4.6㎎/ℓ to 9.0㎎/ℓ with an annual mean 6.38㎎/ℓ. Nitrate varied from 1.58㎎/ℓ to 6.77㎎/ℓ with an annual mean of 3.475㎎/ℓ. Total-nitrogen varied from 2.14㎎/ℓ to 8.38㎎/ℓ with an annual mean of 5.083㎎/ℓ. Total-phosphate varied from 0.035㎎/ℓ to 0.588㎎/ℓ with an annual mean of 0.128㎎/ℓ. Chl.a varied from 1.8㎍/ℓ to 75.0㎍/ℓ with an annual mean of 19.55㎍/ℓ.
