Although it has been studied for a long time in various disciplines, most of control theories remain being developed by analyzing relatively simple tasks. Even recent research on control of information systems development explains only a small part of control phenomena observed in the real world projects. This research focuses on identifying and analyzing the concepts and structures in order to make them useful for understanding and explaining control of information systems development comprehensively This investigation utilizes the complementary relationship between views on control from organizational and economic perspectives. A conceptual framework developed by integrating previous research on control allows us to analyze the development of information systems for control purposes. The results of discussion about control mechanisms and network can be used as guidelines for designing control systems in real projects. Analysis of control networks shows that control of development projects requires quite complex networks intertwining a variety of controllers and controlees. The results of this research are expected to contribute to correcting the unbalanced status of IS research which has emphasized too heavily on planning and implementation, and deepening and widening our understanding about controlling development projects. Practitioners can use the results as guidelines for designing control mechanisms and networks, and get alerted by them about the agency risks inherent in outsourced developments.

In general, testing DB applications is much more difficult than testing other types of software. The fact that the DB states as much as the input data influence and determine the procedures and results of program testing is one of the decisive reasons for the difficulties. In order to create and maintain proper DB states for testing, it not only takes a lot of time and efforts, but also requires extensive IT expertise and business knowledge. Despite the difficulties, there are not enough research and tools for the needed help. This article reports the result of research on automatic creation and maintenance of DB states for testing DB applications. As its core, this investigation develops an automation tool which collects relevant information from a variety of sources such as log, schema, tables and messages, combines collected information intelligently, and creates pre- and post-Images of database tables proper for application tests. The proposed procedures and tool are expected to be greatly helpful for overcoming inefficiencies and difficulties in not just unit and integration tests but including regression tests. Practically, the tool and procedures proposed in this research allows developers to improve their productivity by reducing time and effort required for creating and maintaining appropriate DB sates, and enhances the quality of DB applications since they are conducive to a wider variety of test cases and support regression tests. Academically, this research deepens our understanding and introduces new approach to testing enterprise systems by analyzing patterns of SQL usages and defining a grammar to express and process the patterns.

Research on how to develop information systems efficiently and effectively since early 1960s has resulted in many techniques, methods and methodologies. Only a few of them, however, have been successfully practiced in the field. Model-Driven Development(MDD) is an innovative approach emphasizing the central role of model for development activities, attracting many practitioners’ attention as well as researchers’. As MDD matures, many researchers have been trying to establish the evidence of its effectiveness. But many of them only suggest lessons learned or report limited evidence of effectiveness based on isolated case studies. This paper reports the state of the art of Model-Driven Engineering(MDE) and its major issues. We reviewed a number of papers and collected the conceptual definitions of MDE effectiveness from the technological and organizational perspectives. A case study in which MDD technology was adopted has been performed in order to measure the effectiveness of MDD quantitatively and qualitatively. This paper also analyzes and summarizes key considerations and lessons learned for IT organizations to adopt MDE successfully from the case study.

This study proposes and verifies an integrated model that reflects and helps to explain complexities and comprehensiveness of e-Trade in practice. The primary objective was to widen and deepen our understanding about the phenomena of paperless trading which will enable us to formulate an effective means to promote the adoption and utilization of e-Trade infrastructure. This investigation combined and extended the theories and models of TAM, TOE framework, and TTF in order to identify and hypothesize the causal relationships between factors of technology, organization and environment, and the usage level and performance of e-Trade. The previous research on e-Trade was reviewed and incorporated into the extended model. The integrated model was tested based on the survey data collected from a sample of 417 trading firms. Overall, the regression and path analysis demonstrated the usefulness of the proposed model as a conceptual framework for better understanding and explanation of e-Trade. The result of the analysis implies the relevancy of the factors of technology, organization and environment for facilitating usage of and increasing performance of e-Trade. However, rejection of a few hypothesized relationships implies the necessity of extensive promotion and education about the related laws and regulations, and education, supervision and incentives for e-Trade practitioners.
