Magnetocaloric Effect of Perovskite Manganites of La0.8A0.2MnO3 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba)

We have studied the magnetocaloric effect of perovskite manganites of La0.8A0.2MnO3 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) compounds prepared by conventional solid-state reaction. Magnetic measurements were performed on a vibrating sample magnetometer in the field up to 7 kOe. It is found that a large magnetic-entropy change happened around the phase-transition temperatures of the samples. The magnetic entropy change for the samples doped with Ca is 1.03 J/Kg K (at 188 K), Sr is 1.43 J/Kg K (at 323 K) and Ba is 1.04 J/Kg K (286 K) when the applied magnetic field is 7 kOe, respectively. These results indicate that the present compounds are one of candidates as working materials for magnetic refrigerators.
