Today, the energy use in buildings occupies about 23% in total energy use in Korea. The increasing rate of building energy use is more higher than those of other industry. To accomplish the national target for CO2 reduction in Korea, reducing the building energy use is very important. It is essential to strengthen the thermal resistance of building envelope for minimizing the building energy demand. The aim of this study is to develop the method for evaluating the thermal performance of envelope of existing building. In this paper, the effect of the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor surface of the measurment equipment on U-value.

Currently, on the area of thermal comfort studies are two possible approaches: they are static heat balance models of human body based on laboratory studies and adaptive models based on field measurements results. The static heat balance known is the lab-based PMV and PPD method developed by P.O. Fanger. However there are some opinions that heat balance model has limitations to express the physiological dimensions of adaptation, social and cultural aspects of an occupants. The adaptive theory assumes that people consciously or unconsciously respond to a given thermal environment to which they are exposed in order to restore their own thermal comfort. Occupants in a given environment can achieve thermal comfort through adjustments to their personal environmental conditions in the form of taking on/off clothing, opening/closing windows, shifting the sun shadow and switching on/off fans, heating or air-conditioners, etc. In this study, the effect of the user control of air-conditioner on indoor thermal environment, thermal comfort of occupants and energy consumption were analyzed by field measurement.
