This study designs the locality-based research using project work to develop the geographic skill of varous area and promote the student-directed learning. Its purpose is to seek an effective operation method fo rthe maximum value of learning effect. In addition, it inspects the locality-based project learningeffect by observing how this project model influences the students` interest and attitude to the locality. The results of this study are as follows. First, when the students select the research theme, they select friendly theme related to their experience for the easiness of data collecting and research process and their activity`s interest. Second, the students` research method is an internet research more than a literature research. And they use the various method by means of the field work method as photographing, interview, questionnaire, visiting, observation. The freld work is the most interesting and educational to the students. Third, the locality-based research project work is an effective learning method to develop the various gegraphical skills as the geographical intellectual skill, the geographical graphic skill, the effective communication skill, the co-operative working, and the capacity of discussions. Forth, the self-evaluation and the peer-evaluation enhance the reliability and the objectivity of the teacher evaluation. And they provide a basis fo revaluating the participation and the contribution. Particularly, the work log is a good data to understand the whole research process. Fifth, The students get more local geographical informations and concern about the local problems and the solutions after they carry out the locality research.
