청소년문제를 비롯한 여러 가지 사회문제들로 인하여 세계적으로 인성교육에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 특히 미래 세대의 주역인 학생들의 전인적 성장과 공동체적 인성 및 감성을 함양할 수 있는 교육을 강조하고 있는 추세이다. 이처럼 인성교육이 중요시 되는 상황에서 우리의 전통문화, 특히, 유교문화 속에서 인성교육적 측면을 고찰해 보고, 유교문화를 활용한 인성교육 활성화 방안을 모색해 보고자 한다. 유교가 현대 우리 사회와 맞지 않는다는 부정적 인식도 존재하지만, 유교는 수 세기 동안 우리의 정신문화를 지배해왔으며, 그 전통은 아직도 우리 생활 전반에 이어지고 있다. 특히 유교사상은 일제 강점기에 애국 계몽 운동가와 독립 운동가들의 정신적 구심점이 되기도 하였다. 유교 교육은 그 자체가 인성교육적인 측면이 강하다. 유교의 최고의 스승인공자 자신도 끊임없이 배우고 익히기를 좋아했고, 맹자도 자기실현을 위한 노력으로써 교육의 중요성을 강조했다. 퇴계 이황, 율곡 이이, 다산 정약용 등의 조선시대의 대표적인 유학자들 역시 한결같이 학문적 지식만이 아니라, 배움의 실천과 전인적 인성교육을 중시하였다. 서원은 그들의 배움과 실천의 공간으로서 유교적 이념을 실현하고자 했던 곳이다. 유교적 가치를 재인식하면서 서원을 2015년 유네스코 세계문화유산 등재를 신청하고 있는 상태이다. 이러한 시점에서 유교문화의 소산이자 학문과 교육의 공간이었던 서원의 가치와 활용에 관한 고찰은 인성교육적 차원에서도 의미가 크다고 할 수 있을 것이다. Interest in character education throughout the world is rising along with the expansion of a lot of social problems including the problem of young people. Education to develop communal character and sensitivity of students who are the leading role for future generations is increasingly being emphasized. I'd like to consider a question from character education in the confucian culture and endeavor to devise means to activate character education using confucian culture. Even though there is a negative awareness that confucianism is outdated, it has been dominating our moral culture for centuries and its tradition still continues to our lives as a whole. Confucian ideas were especially spiritual focal point for a patriotic activist enlightenment and an independence fighter during the Japanese occupation. Confucian education in itself has a strong character education aspects. Confucius, the best mentor of Confucianism, loved to study and practice what he has learned himself and Mencius also put an emphasis on the importance of education in an effort to reach self-realization. The prominent Confucian scholars of the Chosen-era such as Teogye Lee Hwang, Yulgok Yi I, Dasan Jeong Yak-yong put great stress on a practice of learning and holistic character education as well as academic knowledge. Seowon, a lecture hall of the Joseon Dynasty period, is the place of learning and practice where Confucian ideology comes true. Having a new understanding of the confucian values, Seowon is in a state of asking for a designation in a UNESCO's world heritage site in 2015. Ar this point in time, considering value and practical use of Seowon which is the product of the Confucian culture and the academic and educational space has a significant meaning.

한 나라의 문화산업은 국가의 경쟁력에 중요한 요소가 되고 있다. 따라서 나라마다 경쟁력이 있는 문화콘텐츠를 발굴하고 문화상품화 하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 문화의 다양성이 중요시되는 시대에는 문화적 정체성과 함께 소통하고 공감할 수 있는 문화콘텐츠의 발굴이 무엇보다 중요하다. 이러한 콘텐츠는 한 나라의 문화적 정체성을 드러냄과 동시에, 인간과 인간 간의 소통을 넘어 인간과 자연, 국가와 국가 간의 소통으로 이어질 수 있기 때문이다. 문화적 정체성과 함께 소통이 중요시 되는 시대이다. 소통은 타인의 다름을 인정하고, 타인을 존중하며, 타인을 배려하며 이해하는 가운데 이루어질 수 있 다. 한글은 문화적 정체성과 함께, 소통의 문화코드를 가지고 있는 훌륭한 문화 유산이다. 소통의 관점으로 본 한글의 문화코드는 ‘어울림’ 혹은 ‘조화’, ‘자연스 러움’, ‘생명존중사상’ 등으로 볼 수 있다. 이러한 소통의 문화코드는 국내적으로 우리 문화에 대한 이해뿐만 아니라 국제적으로 경쟁력 있는 콘텐츠가 되기 위해 꼭 필요한 요소이다. 이러한 한글의 문화코드 분석을 통해서, 한글콘텐츠는 인성교육과 한류콘텐츠 두 가지 측면으로 활용방안을 모색해 볼 수 있다. 한글은 인성교육의 핵심인 소통의 코드를 가지고 있기 때문이다. 인성교육은 우리의 문화유산의 가치를 생각 하면서 동시에 소통의 문화를 배울 수 있는 효과가 있다. 또한 한글은 소통이라는 인류 보편적인 가치와 우리의 문화적 정체성을 갖고 있는 훌륭한 한류콘텐 츠로써 한국 문화의 위상을 높일 수 있으리라 생각한다. Cultural industry is regarded as a main factor to reinforce national competence. Therefore many countries is trying to develop culture contents which have the national competitiveness. In an era of cultural diversity, it is especially important to develop culture contents which has their national cultural identity and that people can communicate and empathize with. These cultural contents can lead to communication between the state and the country, as well as reveal the cultural identity of a nation. Communication is also valuable factor in a global world. Communication can be done well by respecting and considering for others, while acknowledging the differences of others. Hangeul is our great cultural heritage that has not only cultural identity, but also the code of communications. In the view of communications, the culture code of Hangeul is ‘harmony’, ‘naturalness’, ‘respect for life’. This code of communication is a very important factor to understand our culture better and be a worldwide competitive contents. Through the analysis of culture code of Hangeul, Hangul contents can be used for personality educations and Hallyu contents. Because Hangeul has a communication code that is a focus of personality education. Through personality educations, we can learn the culture of communication thinking of the value of our cultural heritage. Hallyu contents using Hangeul can also raise the national status because it has our cultural identity and communication code as a universal value.
