OEM Exhaust Manifold is made by casting, and it is designed to withstand large amount of exhaust resistance and the length of each exhaust pipe is not uniform. In this study, the shape, material, and 리ow characteristics of exhaust manifold is tried to be optimized by increasing the power through numerical experiments using STAR-CD. And the results of this study arc expected to be used as important data when CAE analysis for increasing the life and efficiency of the exhaust system is performed.
Effect of FSW parameters on the microstructure and mechanical properties of DP780 steel

In this study, fiction stir welding (FSW) was performed on DP780 steel at the transverse speeds of (200 mm/min and 400 min/min) and a constant tool speed of 400 rpm. The effect of FSW parameters and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of FSW DP780 steel sheets was thoroughly studied. The visual observations confirmed the defect free weld using both the condition. The microstructural investigations revealed the grain refinement due to dynamic recrystallization in the stir zone (SZ) and thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ) by the mutual effect of severe plastic deformation and frictional heat generation by pin rotation during the FSW process. High yield and ultimate tensile strength and lower ductility was recorded for welded-samples as compared to the base material (BM) DP780 steel. Furthermore, the post weld heat treatment (PWHT) was conducted on both the welded samples in the temperature range between 450-650 °C for 1 h. Reduction in yield strength and tensile strength was found in all PWHT conditions, though improvement in elongation was achieved by annealing at 550 °C. The digital image correlation analysis showed that an inhomogeneous strain distribution occurred in the FSWed samples, and the strain was particularly highly localized in the advancing side of interface zone. The nanoindentation measurements covering the FSWed joint were consistent with an increase of the annealing temperature.

For understanding combustion phenomena in a D.I disel engine, a simulation analysis was mode by using the Star-CD program modified four disel engine. The calculation results were then compared with the experimental results. The effects of the injection nozzle specification, configuration of the combustion chamber and the air motion within the engine performance were investigated.

Numerical analysis of the dynamic contact and the stress developing in the high-speed driven valve of an internal combustion engine is presented. The valve is modeled by finite element techniques, and the dynamic contact between the valve and the valve seat is analyzed by the solution strategies of differential algebraic equations. Also an iterative scheme similar to the augmented Lagrange multiplier method is employed to enforce the contact constraints. It is shown that the contact and separation between the valve and the valve seat can be computed by the finite element techniques without assuming the artificial springs, and the efficiency and accuracy of the solution are demonstrated by the numerical examples.
