아동의 성격강점과 행복의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 매개효과

본 연구는 초등학생을 대상으로 성격강점과 행복의 관계를 검증하고 성격강점과 행복의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 매개효과가 있는지 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전국에 있는 22개 초등학교 4,5,6학년 학생 1535명(4학년 503명, 5학년 512명, 6학년 520)에게서 얻은 성격강점, 행복, 사회적 지지 측정 자료를 구조방정식과 Sobel test를 통하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과 초등학생의 성격강점이 행복감에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 초등학생의 성격강점과 행복감과의 관계에서 사회적 지지가 부분매개효과를 갖는 것으로 검증되었다. 이는 초등학생의 성격강점이 직접적으로 행복을 예측하는 한편 사회적 지지를 통하여 행복을 예측한다는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구 결과는 우리나라의 아동을 대상으로 체계적인 행복증진을 위한 성격강점기반 개입의 가능성을 확인하였고, 성격강점기반 개입의 효과를 높이는 매개변인으로서 사회적 지지를 고려할 필요가 있음을 실증적으로 밝혔다는 데 그 의의가 있다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between character strengths and happiness and to examine the mediation effects of social support in the relationship between character strengths and happiness. One thousand five hundreds thirty five (4th 503, 5th 512, 6th 520) elementary school students were sampled from twenty two elementary schools nation-wide in South Korea. Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) and the Sobel test were employed to analyze the data. The results of this study were as follows. First, character strengths of elementary school students had a significant influence on happiness. Second, social support partially mediated the relationship between character strengths and happiness. This means that character strengths predict not ontly happiness directly but also social support. These findings are important in that they examine the possibility of character strengths based intervention to improve happiness of children. These results are also significant because they demonstrate social support should be considered as one of mediate variable increasing the effectiveness of character strengths-based intervention empirically.

The Purpose of this study was to develop and validate the Korean Inventory of Character Strengths for Children(KICS) that appropriate Korean children`s development and state. 120 questions were selected through item quality, reliability, exploratory factor analysis after 240 questions were administered to 908 4,5,6th grade elementary school students in pilot test. After that 117 questions were chosen through verification process of reliability, construct validity, criteria validity of dada of 1536 4,5,6th grade in main test. The Cronbach α of all strength were over .70 therefore the reliability was acceptable and Model fit for all virtues were suitable with the results that TLI, CFI were over .90 and RMSEA was .057~.087 in hierarchial second factor analysis. Path coefficient was .42~.98 and all factor loading were significant(p<.001), which means this KICS scale consisting 6virtues and 24strengths is statistically significant. Importance and limitation of this study and suggestions for future research are discussed.
