Poly amino acids, which are presented in nature have biocompatibility and biodegradability, and are used in various medical and biological application fields such as cell adhesion, drug delivery, gene therapy and diagnostic. There are three different poly amino acids present in nature, poly-γ-glutamic acid(γ-PGA), poly-ε-lysine (ε-PLS), and cyanophycin. Among them, γ-PGA hydrogel has variety applications in medical device, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and environmental industry for its characteristics of biodegradability, non-toxicity, compatibility and edibility. γ-PGA hydrogel with vitamin C was prepared by using crosslinking reaction by chemical crosslinking agents. The structure of crosslinked γ-PGA hydrogel was analyzed.

The purpose of this study is application to drug delivery system for enhancement of osseointegration using UV curable natural polymer derivatives; Azido Gelatin (Az-Gel), Azido Carrageenan (Az-Car), and Azido Low-Molecular-Weight-O-Carboxymethyl Chitosan (Az-LM-O-CMC). Recently, micro-particles using natural polymers were expected to be widely used in the fields of drug delivery system. In drug delivery system, to stabilize the delivery and activity of protein is significant. Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) as an accelerator of osteoblastic differentiation is easy to be deactivated by enzyme and other physical / chemical conditions. In order to solve these problems, photo-immobilization methods have been studied. Azido groups are related to crosslinking reaction as they form a nitrene intermediate by UV irradiation.
Preparation of visible light curable chitosan derivative with hemostatic treatment

β-chitosan extracted from squid bone was particularly useful in hemostatic treatment and wound healing because of its stable composition. To increase hemostatic effect, we introduced furfuryl group with visible light reactivity into β-chitosan. Prepared chitosan derivative confirmed to have visible light reactivity by micropatterning. Biocompatability of furfuryl chitosan derivative was evaluated by WST assay. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that photo curable chitosan derivative could be useful for hemostasis and wound healing.
Potent anti-adhesion agent using a drug-eluting visible-light curable hyaluronic acid derivative

Post-operative adhesion is a very serious complication in the clinicalfield, frequently occurring aftersurgery. In severe cases, reoperation may be required. In this study, a visible light-curable furfurylhyaluronic acid derivative was prepared and combined with ibuprofen for anti-adhesion and antiinflammatoryapplications. A furfuryl isocyanate moiety was introduced in hyaluronic acid affordingfurfuryl hyaluronic acid (F-HA). The anti-adhesion and anti-inflammatory effects of F-HA were examinedin chickens at 2, 4, and 8 weeks postoperation. It was concluded that F-HA combined with ibuprofen is asuitable anti-adhesion and anti-inflammation agent.
Development of drug releasing anti-adhesion using visible light cured hyaluronic acid derivative

외과 수술 후에 자주 발생하는 조직 간의 유칙을 방지하기 위해 가시광 반응성 히알루론산 유도체(furfuryl hyaluronic acid, F-HA)를 제조하였다. 뛰어난 생분해성을 지니는 히알루론산에 furfuryl group과 같은 가시광 반응성 작용기를 도입하여 생체 내에서 고정화율을 높였다. 유착방지제로서의 F-HA는 수술 부위의 표면에 광가교로 인해 코팅되어 물리적으로 분리시켜 조직의 유착을 방지할 것으로 기대된다. 더불어 소염제를 함께 광고정화하여 약물방출형 유착방지제로 응용가능하며 수술 후 회복기간 동안 발생 가능한 염증을 감소시킬 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 제조된 F-HA는 1H-NMR을 이용해 그 구조를 분석하였으며 Micropatterning을 통해 광반응성 및 약물고정화 능력을 확인했다. 의료용 유착방지제로 응용되기 위해 WST assay로 F-HA의 생체적합성을 평가하였다. 이를 통해 F-HA의 약물방출형 유착방지제로의 개발 가능성을 확인하였다.
Visible light curable polymer with good biocompatibility for medical application

Natural polymers had good biodegradation and antibacterial activity. Photo-curable polymers used to tissue engineering and drug delivery system. We studied the polymer derivatives with visible light reactivity. The structure of the modified polymers was characterized by FT-IR and <sup>1</sup>H NMR. A visible light-induced cross-linking of polymer derivatives was evaluated by micro-patterning. For biocompatibility it was confirmed cell proliferation and cytotoxicity by WST assay. In conclusion, visible light curable polymers would be able to apply more effective in medical field.
Preparation of Thermo-Sensitive Hydrogel for Drug Delivery

Thermo-sensitive hydrogel which happen to physical or chemical change in specific temperature can be applied to a medical and cosmetic fields such as sustained release drug delivery, wound dressing, and skin care. Many references about thermos-sensitive hydrogels have studied the reversible sol-gel phase transition at specific temperatures using polymers such as Methoxypoly(ethylene glycol)-Poly (caprolactone)(mPEG-PCL), poly(lactic acid-co-glycolic acid)(PLGAPEG- PLGA), and poly(ethylene oxide-propylene oxide-ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO). We have conducted study using poloxamer 407 with PEO-PPO-PEO structure and gelling agent. For in vivo application, the Sol-Gel phase transition time of the thermo-sensitive polymer was determined at body temperature of 37°C. Physicochemical properties and drug release pattern of the hydrogel was evaluated to suit the purpose of the drug delivery device.

Furfuryl hyaluronic acid derivative (F-HA) was prepared to reduce adhesion of inter-tissue after surgical operation. Hyaluronic acid has biocompatibility, wound-healing effect, and biodegradable properties. In this study, We expect that F-HA could prevent adhesion because F-HA could make physical separation by coating the surgical site. Immobilized ibuprofen as anti-inflammatory drug slowly released and reduced inflammatory response and adhesion. Structure of prepared F-HA was analyzed using <sup>1</sup>H-NMR. Also, for medical application, biocompatibility of F-HA was evaluated by WST assay.
