Ha(Dong-A Univ,)<br/> ABSTRACT<br/> To investigate the method of the simultaneous reduction of Soot and NOx, we developed a new conception for dual fuel stratified injection system in a Diesel Engine.<br/> Some parts of the injection system, ie. nozzle holder, delivery vale. were remodeled to inject diesel and methanol in order from one injector. The Quantity of diesel and methanol was controled precisely by micrometers that were mounted at control lack of injection pump.<br/> The real injection Quantity ratio of dual fuel was certificated by volumetric ratio at injection Quantity experiment. We could confirm the capability that soot and NOx simultaneously were reduced by diesel-methanol stratified injection from the results of combustion and exhaust characteristic.<br/>

Even though a series of cutting jobs for a small workpiece can be finished at one set-up. any machine tool builder hasn’t been able to build a module type of multi-functional machine which can do most of machining jobs for large-sized workpiece like turbine driving shaft & crankshaft of large generation facilities requiring "heavy cutting jobs" at one set-up until today. Therefore. high productivity & machining accuracy couldn’t be guaranteed in the previous process requiring separate workpiece set-up in each cutting process, In this regard. we have finally developed a multi-functional machine which can complete all the machining jobs of a large & complicated component at one set-up on one machine, In the next step. however. it is also required to develop the analysis of a machine structure, CAD data processing module through the cutting status checking software to monitor the cutting result on the machine. Multi-Function Module. AAC & ATC and the post-process technology of NC Data at the sane tine.

In a SI engine, it is necessary to control fuel quantity in accordance with intake air amount in order to reduce exhaust emission and improve the specific fuel consumption. Precise AFR control requires measurement of air amount with respect to the cylinder and injection fuel according to the air amount. In this paper, we applied nonlinear fuel injection model, and developed the algorithm of AFR control. This algorithm includes the methods of measurement of transient air mass flowing into each cylinder, of calculation of injection pulse width for measured air mass, and the method of feedback and estimation control by using lambda sensor. Also we developed control program for IBM-PC by using C++ Builder, and tested it in the commercial engine. The results we have got from the work better than those of the commercial ECU.<br/>

For a digital engine control system, control timings such as ignition and injection are based on the crank shaft angle. Therefor, it is very important that the angle of the crank shaft have to be detected with accuracy for the fuel injection and ignition timing, the sequential multi-point injection(MPI) system that has a independent injector in each cylinder, is used to inject the fuel of the accurate quantity, and to cope with varying of the engine status. The distributorless ignition(DLI) System that is the direct ignition method, is used for the accurate ignition and the flexible ignition timing. We install a sensor that occurs a number of events for the accurate detecting of the angle of the crank shaft.<br/> This study aims to make a event detecting algorithm, a method to detect the crank shaft angle by a event, and a software witch output a control signal at the given angle values.<br/>

Lean burn combustion became an important concept for improving fuel economy and reducing exhaust emissions. However, lean burning is associated with increased cycle-to-cycle combustion variations due to the ignition instabilities and reduced propagation rates. Engine stability under lean mixture conditions could be improved by increasing burning rates through enhanced flow characteristics and by securing ignitability with better ignition systems.<br/> The effects of flow and ignition characteristics on the combustion performances are investigated in a 4-yalve SI engine. Flow characteristics of tumble-swirl were varied with swirl control valve attached at the inlet ports, while ignition energy and its distribution were controlled in a high-frequency ignition system by changing spark duration and spark frequency. The improvement of lean burn performance by the optimum flow and ignition characteristics was discussed.<br/>
