Vol.38 No.2

N/A Background:Ultraviolet irradiation causes various changes in cells or tissues including DNA damage, which results in changes of cell cycling, mutation and cell death such as apoptosis or necrosis. p53 has been studied widely to be as a regulator gene to modulate cell cycling. Previous report shows that RAD50 is a gene to be associated with p53 to repair damaged DNA. Objective and method:In this study, we evaluated changes of RAD50 and p53 expression by ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation in rat skin in vivo and in human fibroblasts (hF) in vitro. Results:In rat skin irradiated with 400mJ/cm2 UVB, RAD50 protein and mRNA expression were decreased by from early stage after irradiation, and they were restored to its normal level after 12 h. In hF irradiated with 20mJ/cm2 UVB, change of RAD50 expression by UVB irradiation was similar to that of rat skin. On the contrary, p53 protein expression was increased by UVB irradiation from 6 h and 3 h after UVB irradiation in rat skin and hF, respectively, but p53 mRNA expression was not changed by UVB irradiation. Conclusion:RAD50 and p53 expression is modulated differently in UVB- irradiated skin. Further studies are warrented to evaluate functional relationship between the genes in repairing damaged DNA. Laugier-Hunziker 증후군

        이승철,이지범,원영호,표원식 대한피부과학회 2000 大韓皮膚科學會誌 Vol.38 No.10

The Laugier-Hunziker syndrome represents a rare, acquired, benign, pigmentary disorder of the lips, oral mucosa, and nails. The nails are often involved with the development of melanonychia, which may be due to focal melanocyte activation. The lips and the mucous membranes show a variable number of flat, gray to brown-black lenticular spots, which are usually asymptomatic. We report the third case of Laugier-Hunziker syndrome in the Korean literatures.

백반증양 피부 소견을 보인 이식편 대 숙주질환 2예

        김성진,이승철,원영호,표원식 대한피부과학회 1999 大韓皮膚科學會誌 Vol.37 No.6

The skin is a frequently involved organ in graft-versus-host disease(GVHD). Various skin lesions including erythematous eruption, bullae, desquamation, lichenoid, and sclerodermoid lesions have been reported in GVHD, but vitiligo-like lesions were. We present two cases of chronic GVHD presenting multiple hypopigmented patches following allogenic bone marrow transplant(BMT) due to severe aplastic anemia. The histopathologic studies showed focal vacuolar degeneration of basal cells, absence of melanocytes in the epidermis, and perivascular lymphocytic infiltration consisting of T cells in the upper dermis, These cases suggest that vitiligo-like lesions may develop due to marked melanocyte- lymphocyte interaction after BMT.

        백반증과 건선환자의 삶의 질 평가

        최영,김성진,이승철,윤진상,이무석,원영호,표원식,이형영 대한피부과학회 1999 大韓皮膚科學會誌 Vol.37 No.6

Background: In recent times, it has been gradually emphasized that an aspect of diseases impacting on the quality of an individuals life goes beyond physical impairments with the development of economic and medical technology. Skin diseases especially may be associated with a variety of negative psychologic effects, such as low self-esteem, feelings of inferiority because skin lesions are exposed to others and cause cosmetic problems. Many researchers have been already established various dermatology-specific questionnaires and disease-specific questionnaires in developed countries, but these are rare in Korea. Objective: We tried to survey the social, psychological and physical aspects of patients with vitiligo and psoriasis to evaluate the impact of skin diseases on the quality of life in Korea. Methods: We inquired after 64 patients by using a dermatology-specific questionnaires Skindex recently developed by Chren et al. It has 6I-items and eight scales including cognitive, social, depression, fear, embarrassment, anger, physical discomfort, and physical limitations. Results: Among the 8 scales scores of all patients, embarrassment is the highest, followed by anger, fear, depression, cognitive, physical discomfort, physical limitation, and social. The patients with psoriasis had higher scores in all scales than vitili patients. The patients with more than 5 years of the disease's duration revealed significantly higher scores int he scales of physical discomfort(p0.01) and embarrassment(p0.03). There were not any significant differences in age, sex, education and religion between both disease groups. Conclusion: Compared to western developed countries, the survey revealed that overall scores of all scales were higher, with embarrassment having the highest score. So these results suggest that the quality of life may be influenced by a social and cultural status.
