Jet formation and propagation produced by spark jet plasma actuator was investigated numerically with a cylinder shaped 356 mm3 cavity. Spark pulse was modeled by a constant energy source term over a given pulse duty time whose input value had been validated with the reference data. Initial process in a jet formation and overall performance of the spark jet were strongly dependent on spark location. Spark placed farther from the cavity exit produced a delayed but stronger jet providing a higher thrust and total impulse. As the duty time of the spark pulse increased, the total impulse increased until the thrust value and jet structure became similar at 35 μs duty time and above. However, the efficiency dropped significantly due to an increased energy input with a small thrust gain. The orifice divergence angle did not play a favorable role in the performance of the spark jet actuator since the orifice was not choked. A larger orifice diameter produced lower thrust due to lower jet velocity and faster density drop inside the cavity.
