Combustion characteristics of selected solid fuels (wood, paper sludge, RDF) were investigated in a laboratory scale fluidized bed combustor. A nearly single particle combustion environment was reproduced in the fluidized bed and the progress of reaction was observed by determining the carbon conversion rate, overall recovery of carbon in gas phase, and the mean conversion time, which were determined by measuring the gas phase carbon containing species, namely CO and CO₂ at the exit of the combustor. The aims were to determine the influence of the operating parameters and the fuel characteristics on the pyrolysis and combustion processes of the fuel. The parameters were bed temperature, air flow rate, oxygen concentration, water content, and the size of particle. The particle combustion process can be divided into three significant processes; moisture evaporation, devolatilization, and char combustion. All the processes were governed by the heat up process of the particle. The results also showed that the weak effect of oxygen concentration and flow rate on devolatilization. But remarkable effect on char combustion was shown. Bed temperature, size and water content affected the processes of particle combustion to some extent. Drying and devolatilization occur in parallel during the initial phase but char combustion take place either in parallel or in series by the fuel type.
국내 도시 쓰레기 소각로에서의 운전조건과 다이옥신 배출량과의 상관관계에 관한 연구

In order to minimize emission of polychlorinated dibenzo dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzo furans (PCDD/PCDFs) from municipal solid waste incinerators, it is important to maintain optimized operating conditions along with the system modification/improvement. Operating conditions of MSW incinerator make very complicated influence on formation of PCDD/PCDFs in each unit apparatus. For revealing these influences, concentrations of PCDD/PCDFs are measured from the stack and from the fly ash, while monitoring the plant operating conditions. The effects are grouped into 3 main categories, combustion conditions, de Novo synthesis effects, and adsorption/destruction effects in the flue gas treatment system. Interpretation of the results showed that de Novo synthesis effect, reformation by metalic catalyst, especially Cu in fly ash in the temperature range of $250{\sim}500^{\circ}C$, is found to influence most dominantly on the concentration of PCDD/PCDFs. A plausible mathmatical model for predicting concentration of PCDD/PCDFs is proposed, and discussed.

The prime source of vibration and noise in a gear system is originated from transmission error between the meshing gears. In this paper, the dynamic modeling method and response of a spur gear pair are investigated by using a detailed contact analysis at each time step. Input values such as time-varying mesh stiffness and static transmission error excitation are not required in this investigation because mesh forces are calculated by contact analysis. The efficient contact search kinematics and algorithms in the context of the compliant contact model are developed to detect the interactions between teeth surfaces. The compliant force model that is based on the Herzian law was used and the friction force are considered. Dynamic transmission error(DTE) and mesh frequency values are presented.
