The main purpose of this study is to develop an expert system for vertical transportation planning in high-rise office buildings. Components of the system, which are ‘database/fact’, ‘explanation facilities’, ‘inference engine’, and ‘knowledge base’, were actualized to construct an algorithm. The developed expert system will derive planning alternatives based on simple building information in the early design stage. Through this study, reduction of time in the process of designing high-rise buildings will occur and architects will be able to establish economic and efficient core plans. The developed expert system can support evaluating and selecting design alternatives economically and efficiently in the process of designing high-rise buildings.

This study has been proceeded based on the idea to develop an expert system for vertical transportation planning in high-rise buildings. Housings and hotels, which are two of the main usages in high-rise buildings, were researched. Components of the system, which are ‘database’, ‘explanation facilities’, ‘inference engine’, and ‘knowledge base’, were actualized based on information about vertical transportation planning for the studied usages. These contents were materialized to construct an algorithm which can be used for planning high-rise housings and hotels based on simple building information. Through further research, an expert system can be developed to support evaluating and selecting design alternatives economically and efficiently in the process of designing high-rise buildings.

A prototype of remodeling floor plans are proposed in this study. They are researched base on the majority floor plan type which forms 19% out of representatives 1st-Phase New Town Aged Apartment compositions. In order to examine possible scenarios of the prototypes, prototype planning model is derived from the president studies on aged apartment remodeling. The prototype plans reflect residents’ preference survey and lead 6 different kinds of prototype plans regarding 3 different remodeling scenarios. Prototypes consider characteristics of multi-complex buildings and households which applicably various remodeling planning options; story-Increase remodeling, residents custom remodeling etc. The study has significance to be basic planning materials for remodeling of association and local government.

With the increase of aged apartments nationwide, many apartment complexes are being promoted for remodeling. Although floor plan proposal through remodeling is an important factor in the remodeling business, discussions regarding design processes for remodeling have not been sufficiently taking place in the academic world. This research aims to analyze the initial stage remodeling floor plan processes. In order to do so, we conducted an expert design experiment with six licensed architects on the corridor type and staircase type of a two-bay floor. The entire course of the experiment was recorded, and we analyzed the remodeling floor plan processes of each expert by processing this video. As the result, we derived the floor plan processes of six professional architects, and by putting them together, an six-step planning process. This six-step process had partial differences with the planning process considered in existing studies. The results of this study can be utilized as guidelines for apartment remodeling plans, and as basic data for subsequent researches.
크리스토퍼 알렉산더의 패턴 랭귀지를 적용한 이라크 아파트 단위주호의 계획 가이드라인 개발에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study is to design guidelines for architects who are planning apartments in Iraq. These guidelines have been built based on the ‘Pattern Language’. 〈A Pattern Language〉, published by Christopher Alexander, contains 253 solutions or design patterns that recur in architecture. These patterns contain useful connective information which can be selected, modified, and combined to complete an actual design. Alexander’s ‘Pattern Language’ is a result of the search for a systematic design method. Patterns that can be applied to apartment unit planning have been selected in this research. In order to apply cultural elements to planning guidelines, traditional and modern housing cultures and spatial structure of housings in Iraq have been researched. Results from cultural studies were used to modify the selected pattern in order to build the ‘Pattern Language of Iraq Apartment Units’. Based on this pattern language, planning guidelines for Iraq apartment units have been designed. These guidelines are expected to be used as a reference for architects that are planning apartments in Iraq.
공동주택 수직증축 리모델링 면적산정 최적화 알고리즘 개발에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study is to develop an algorithm for optimizing area calculations for remodeled apartments taking into consideration the extended floor area of existing units, total floor area of added units, vertical and/or horizontal extension, number of floors, etc. within the legal regulations for apartment remodeling. The developed algorithm was composed of an objective function to maximize extended unit area and 7 constraints related to remodeling by vertical extension as defined by current regulations. The algorithm was applied to a planned apartment remodeling proposal in order to verify its applicability and effectiveness. Overall, applying the algorithm to the project displayed similar results with the actual proposal, but for some variables showed more efficient results. This algorithm could facilitate effective decision-making for optimizing area distribution in old residential complexes which have multiple unit types and varying building conditions, as well as increase the satisfaction of residents and the business value of remodeling.

Building remodeling is widely applied to many buildings because it has the advantage of not only constructing a pleasant and sustainable living environment but also reusing resources. Remodeling for apartment buildings, which are on residential use, is also carried out worldwide, including Korea. The Korean government launched a remodeling research group to develop remodeling technology, such as remodeling area planning optimization tool and remodeling prototypes by floor plan type required for remodeling design. However, it has not been verified to what extent the developed technologies are actually effective. This study aims to verify the 2 technologies developed for remodeling design through expert design experiments. The design experiments were conducted with professional architects, being verified in terms of floor plan efficiency, load-bearing wall removal amount, and floor plan satisfaction. The results of the study are as follows. (1) In terms of floor planning efficiency, it was found to have a quantitative time difference in designing with the time reduction of 24% depending on the technology. (2) It was verified that the ratio of demolition of load-bearing walls decreased by 6.44% for experts who applied the remodeling prototype. (3) Satisfaction level with the floor plan was relatively high for experts who applied the remodeling prototype on designing.
바이오미미크리를 활용한 우수활용 건축계획 방안에 관한 연구

The purpose of this research is to propose architectural planning methods for rainwater usage by applying ‘Biomimcry’, the imitation of lessons learned from nature. Rainwater usage related case studies that show biomimetic properties were analyzed and methods that activated the architecture were examined. This research has been carried out through the following process. First, the outline of case study analysis was formed based on theoretical studies related to biomimcry and rainwater usage, and research on how water is being utilized in nature. The total of 27 rainwater usage case studies demonstrated the implementation of rainwater during the initial stage of architectural planning. The properties of biomimetic application were analyzed, and cases were classified by evaluating the relevance of biomimetic qualities. Moreover, each case was examined on how biomimetic properties are applied in order to suggest a direction on applying biomimicry methods for rainwater usage planning in buildings in the future. Suggested biomimicry methods can be divided into macro and micro levels based on the range of application and the scale of applied mechanisms learned from nature. The result of this study will help architects who are interested in getting ideas or guidance for planning buildings that use rainwater.

The purpose of this research is to construct a classification system of biological information so that it can be applied to biomimicry architectural research. It is both uneconomical and time consuming for architectural researchers to spend time searching and studying principles of organisms. In this study, we suggested a classification system which includes biological information and can be used as a guide for architectural researchers attempting to research biomimicry architecture. Basic principles were extracted from architectural planning elements and biological information. Architectural experts matched biological principles to relevant architectural principles. Based on the architectural and biological principle correspondence table, group analysis was conducted. Biological principles were classified into 6 parts: air, structure/material, habitat, water/circulation, shape, and energy. This classification of biological principles corresponds to 6 architectural principles: ventilation, natural material, insulation, water resource, awning, and lighting/solar heat. According to the results of this research, specific classification groups may appear as biometric information increase through further research.
