Objective: The Graston technique and self-myofascial release technique using foam roller are used to fascia release. The purposeof this study was to compare the immediate effects of the Graston technique and self-myofascial release technique using foamroller to improve calf muscle function and walking speed. Design: A cross-sectional studyMethods: Total fifty-two healthy adults participated in this study. Subjects randomly were conducted the Graston technique andself-myofascial release technique using foam roller to the right and left calf muscles for 5 minutes each. Calf muscle function was assessed by ankle dorsi flexion range of motion, and walking speed was assessed by 10m walking test on preferred walking andfast walking. Results: Both the Graston technique and self-myofascial release technique using foam roller significantly improved the ankledorsiflexion angle, viscoelastic properties of the calf muscle, and preferred walking speed (p<0.05), but there was no significantdifference in vertical jump and fast walking speed. Also, there was no significant differences between the two techniques in allvariables (p>0.05). Conclusions: This study showed that both the Graston technique and self-myofascial release technique using foam roller can affect muscle function and walking speed by relaxing the fascia of the calf muscles. Because the immediate effects are similarbetween the two interventions, the self-myofascial release technique using foam roller is recommended for economic savings.

In general, partial differential equations (PDEs) for engineering problems are solved numerically. Recently, there are significant interests to solve the PDEs with physics-informed neural network (PINN). PINN is expected to reduce the computational cost compared to the numerical approach. Nevertheless, it is important to further reduce the computational cost of the PINN approach. This study attempts to enhance the performance of the existing PINN model for the 1D wave equation by modifying the PINN architecture. The PINN model is based on the artificial neural network (ANN) architecture that include two hidden layers of 200 nodes. The results show that the proposed PINN is less costly in solving the PDEs than existing PINN models.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the effects of lumbar stabilization exercise during abdominal hollowing with conscious contraction of the pelvic floor muscles on trunk muscle in healthy twenties subjects. METHODS: The participants were randomly allocated to an experimental group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). The experimental group received lumbar stabilization exercise combined with conscious contraction of the pelvic floor muscles during abdominal hollowing. The control group received lumbar stabilization exercise with abdominal hollowing. Both groups trained with the respective exercise for 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Muscle activation of the external oblique and erector spinae muscles, thickness of the transversus abdominis and multifidus, and contraction holding time of tranversus abdominis were measured before and after exercise. RESULTS: Activations of both the external oblique muscles were significantly decreased, and thickness of both the transversus abdominis and multifidus muscles, and contraction holding time of the transversus abdominis muscle were significantly increased in the experimental group (p<.05). The thickness of the left transversus abdominis and right multifidus muscles, and the contraction holding time of the transversus abdominis muscle significantly increased in the control group (p<.05). On comparing both groups, the activations of both external oblique muscles were significantly reduced and the contraction holding time of the transversus abdominis muscle was significantly increased in the experimental group (p<.05). CONCLUSION: These results suggest that lumbar stabilization exercise by abdominal hollowing and conscious contraction of the pelvic floor muscles is suitable and efficient for healthy twenties subjects.

In this study, modified cascade cycles which are two staged Intercooler and pre-expander types are simulated and designed, then compared performance with basic cascade process which is the base in liquefaction process. These are included methane, ethylene and propane cycles. The COP of two staged intercooler type and pre-expander type were showed about 12.6% and 23.6% higher than basic cascade process, and specific power was decreased about 28.0%.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare trunk and lower extremity muscle activity during deadlift on stable - and unstable surfaces. Methods: Twenty healthy men participated in this study. The participants performed deadlift exercise on both a stable surface and an unstable surface. During the deadlift, the activities of the trunk and lower extremity muscle were collected by using electromyography. Results: The results showed that the electromyographic activity of the gluteus maximus significantly increased during deadlift on an unstable surface compared to on a stable surface (p <0.05). However, in the electromyographic activities of the rectus femoris, biceps femoris, and erector spinae, there were no significant differences (p >0.05). Conclusion: The finding that the electromyographic activity of the gluteus maximus increases significantly during deadlift on an unstable surface compared to stable one could be used to develop an efficient exercise program.

Recent advances in endoscopic instruments, including narrow-band imaging (NBI) and magnification endoscopy, allowed dramatic increase in the early diagnosis of hypopharyngeal cancers. In addition, endoscopic mucosal resection or endoscopic submucosal dissection has recently been used for the treatment of hypopharyngeal cancer at an early stage, especially in Japan. However, to date, there is no published report in Korea. A 68-year-old man was admitted for preoperative evaluation and treatment for known esophageal cancer initially diagnosed at a local clinic. During the evaluation, magnifying endoscopy combined with the NBI system revealed a concurrent hypopharyngeal cancer not detected by initial conventional endoscopy. In this case report, we describe for the first time in Korea a case of early stage hypopharyngeal carcinoma that was successfully treated by endoscopic submucosal dissection with a review of literature.
