제주도에 서식하는 연산호 일종, 큰수지맨드라미의 사망률과 성장 패턴

큰수지맨드라미의 사망률과 성장률에 관한 연구를 제주도 문섬에서 2003년 2월부터 2004년 10월까지 진행하였다. 수심 15 m에 서식하는 큰수지맨드라미 48개체를 형광 플래깅 테이프로 표시했으며, 이들을 1년 6개월 동안 약2개월 간격으로 모니터링 하였다. 연구기간동안 2개월 단위의 평균 사망률은 50.4%로 나타났으며, 여름 태풍 발생시점인 2003년 8-10월에는 84.6%로 최대치를 나타내었다. 개체크기에 따른 사망률 양상에서는 등급 I(${\leq}$10 cm) 개체들의 사망률이 등급 II(10 cm-20 cm)와 등급 III(>20 cm)보다 높게 나타났다. 각 계절에 따른 성장률의 차이가 뚜렷하게 나타나지는 않았으나 가을-겨울시기의 길이 성장률이 다른 시기보다 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 전체 조사기간 동안의 평균 길이성장률은 2개월 동안 3 cm씩 성장하는 것으로 확인 되었으며, 2003년 8-10월에는 6.4 cm로 최대치를 보였다. 한편 직경의 성장은 2개월 동안 평균 0.3 cm가 증가하였으며, 2004년 4-6월에 1.4 cm로 최대치를 나타내었다. 제주도의 큰수지맨드라미 개체군은 매년 여름 태풍에 큰 영향을 받아 높은 사망률을 보이지만, 이후 어린개체들의 높은 가입률과 빠른 성장을 통하여 개체군을 유지하는 것으로 연구되었다. Mortality and growth rate of the soft coral, Dendronephthya gigantea, from Jejudo Island on the southern coast of Korea were investigated from February 2003 to October 2004 using SCUBA diving. 48 individuals with variable sizes of D. gigantea of the depth of 15m were tagged with flagging tapes and plastic films, and then monitored with two month intervals. The average mortality of two-month term for the study period was 50.4%, with the peak of 84.6% during the summer storms in August - October 2003. About the size class mortality, individuals of size class I(${\leq}$10 cm) showed the highest mortality, followed by size class III(>20 cm) and size class II(10 cm-20 cm). Growth rate did not show a seasonal pattern. For growth in length, individuals of D. gigantea grew about 3cm in average for two-month period, with a maximum growth of 6.4 cm which occurred in August - October 2003. For growth in diameter, individuals grew about 0.3 cm for 2 month term, with a maximum of 1.4cm in April - June 2004. Individuals of size class I usually grew faster than those of larger size classes. D. gigantea population in Jejudo Island was strongly affected by summer storms, which was due to annual event of summer typhoon. Never the less, it appears that the local population can be maintained by fast growth of the juvenile stage and active recruitment to compensate the high mortality caused by the summer disturbance.
증례보고 : 노인환자에서 고관절 치환술 수술 후 발견된 뇌경색

Perioperative cerebral infarction is uncommon and its mechanism is often uncertain. This is a report of an unusual case of acute cerebral infarction following general anesthesia. The patient was a 83-year-old female admitted for total hip replacement arthroplasty (THRA). There were no previous cerebro- and cardio-vascular symptoms and history. During introduced general anesthesia with sevoflurane, there was a persistent low systolic BP of 80-100 mmHg (preoperative BP was 140/85 mmHg). On emerging from anesthesia, confusion and dense right hemiparesis were observed. Emergency CT brain scan showed early cerebral infarction in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) territory. Even though prompt supportive neurosurgical intensive care was initiated, the patient died at postoperative 4 days. (Korean J Anesthesiol 2007; 52: 119~22)

A propyl alcohol based sol-gel method was used as to replace the 2-methoxyethanol with 1,1,1 tris (hydroxyrnethyl) ethane for preparation of PZT piezoelectric ceramic. The powder that were calcined at 900℃ and sintered at 1100℃ for 2hrs as to reach a pyrochlore-free crystal phase were obtained by using this sol-gel process. The XRD and the SEM were used to examine the character and the surface morphology of the obtained material. When the powder were sintered at 1100℃, 2hrs, it had maximum dielectric constant 880 and showed minimum dielectric loss. The grain size of this powder was in the range of 400 to 500 ㎚. The PZT prepared by using this process have good piezoelectric property and will have the potential for application such as various piezoelectric tromsducers and sensors.
