We consider a magneto-optical transition theory based on the many-body projection technique. And we use two kinds of projectors ; projection-isolation operators and projection operators. The second method turns out to be more convenient than the first method.

Bovine cerebral mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) isozymes were partially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation, DEAF-Sephacel, Sephacryl S-300, 5`-AMP Sepharose 4B chromatography. They are membrane bound ALDH, soluble high K_m ALDH and low K_m, ALDH. Molecular weights of the native membrane bound ALDH and the soluble high K_m ALDH were 250,000 dalton and 230,000 dalton, respectively and both were found to consist of homologous tetramer by SDS-PAGE analysis and their pI values were 6.52 and 6.22, respectively. The K_m, values for aliphatic aldehydes and aromatic biogenic aldehydes of the membrane bound ALDH were 10^(-3) M level and 10^(-4) M level, respectively and those of the soluble high K_m ALDH were 10^(-4) M level for both aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes. However those of the soluble low K_m ALDH for both aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes were 10^(-6) M level. These results suggest that the mitochondrial membrane bound ALDH may act as barrier when the aldehyde concentration in cytosol is high but when the soluble ALDH, particularly low K_m ALDH may oxidize aldehydes that appeared in mitochondria when the concentration of aldehyde in cytosol was extremely low. It was also found that the membrane ALDH was glycoprotein and NAD^+ dependent while the soluble high K_m ALDH can use either NAD^+ or NADP^+ as a cofactor.

In this study, fosmid cloning strategies were used to assess the microbial populations in water from the International Space Station (ISS) drinking water system (henceforth referred to as Prebiocide and Tank A water samples). The goals of this study were: to compare the sensitivity of the fosmid cloning strategy with that of traditional culture-based and 16S rRNA-based approaches and to detect the widest possible spectrum of microbial populations during the water purification process. Initially, microbes could not be cultivated, and conventional PCR failed to amplify 16S rDNA fragments from these low biomass samples. Therefore, randomly primed rolling-circle amplification was used to amplify any DNA that might be present in the samples, followed by size selection by using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. The amplified high-molecular- weight DNA from both samples was cloned into fosmid vectors. Several hundred clones were randomly selected for sequencing,followed by Blastn/Blastx searches. Sequences encoding specific genes from Burkholderia, a species abundant in the soil and groundwater, were found in both samples. Bradyrhizobium and Mesorhizobium, which belong to rhizobia, a large community of nitrogen fixers often found in association with plant roots, were present in the Prebiocide samples. Ralstonia,which is prevalent in soils with a high heavy metal content, was detected in the Tank A samples. The detection of many unidentified sequences suggests the presence of potentially novel microbial fingerprints. The bacterial diversity detected in this pilot study using a fosmid vector approach was higher than that detected by conventional 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
A Succinct Diagram Approach to the Linear Optical Conductivity for an Electron-phonon System

It is well known that a proper combination of electron and phonon distributions can be included in the optical transition formalism by using the KC reduction identities and the state-dependent projectors [Kang and Choi, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 43, 165203 (2010)]. In the present work, the expression is shown to be represented in a simple diagram system, in which all the diagrams are grouped into topologically distinct ones. The criterion for identifying topologically equivalent diagrams originates from the proper combination of distribution functions. It is further shown that the linewidth function appearing in the energy denominator of the conductivity can be revived simply by using this diagram method, implying that the rules can help reduce the amount of calculation needed to formulate the conductivity.
