Relationship between distribution of tree species and salt concentration in soil was studied in order to understand the salt tolerance of tree species in the middle part of Korean east coast and its results were as follows; 1) The tree species in the area mostly consist of Pinus thunbergii, Pinus densiflora, Rosa rugosa, Lespedeza bicolor, Amorpha fruticosa, Quercus dentata, Rhododendron mucronulatum, Rohinia pseudoacacia and others. 2) Pinus thunbergii was dominant species and Rosa rugosa gradually disappeared at the distance from the beach line to 200 meters toward inland. Pinus thunbergii tended to disappear gradually and Pinus densiflora was dominant at the distance from 200 meters to 300 meters inland. 3) Pinus thunbergii was dominant below 50 meters in altitude while Pinus densiflora was dominant above 50 meters. 4) NaCl content tended to decrease as proceeding to inland, higher altitude and to shallow depth of soil. 5) Change in pH in terms of distance toward inland and altitude was not significant, but change in pH along soil depth was conspicuously decreasing from pH 7.0 of top soil to pH 6.5 50㎝ below. 6) Pinus thunbergii was densely distributed to the area where soil NaCl content was higher than 100 vpm, while Pinus densiflora dominated the area of less than 100 vpm. Rosa rugosa was shown to dominate the area of over 100 vpm soil NaCl content. 7) NaCl content in tree tended to decrease, as proceeding to inland, rapidly within 150 meters distance from the beach line and gradually at further distances. NaCl content in leaf was about 600 ppm, branch 350ppm and root 250 ppm.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the physiological response to salt treatments in the leaves of several tree species. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The water potential of tree leaves damaged with various salt concentrations did not change nearly for 10 hours after treatment. As time elapsed after treatment, however, the higher salt concentration in soils, the higher leaf water potential was observed. 2. Leaf water potential of species intolerant to salt was higher than tolerant species due to the severe dehydration from cells. 3. According to the water relation parameters obtained from P-V curves, the values of π_σ and π_ρ in the damaged leaves were higher, but those of Vρ/Vσ and Emax were lower than those of the intact leaves. 4. The photosynthesis rate of tree leaves decreased remarkably with increasing the salt concentrations in soils, and it decreased faster for species intolerant cintolerant to salt.
중부지방 주요활엽수의 직경성장에 (直徑成長) 관한 조사연구

This study was carried out to compare the diameter increment of seven major selected tree species which grow wild in middle area of Korea. The results obtained were summarized as follows. 1) The difference in annual diameter increment among seven species according to D.B.H. classes showed to be the strongest in Juglang mandshurica, the second rank Corpus controversa, the third rank Betula platyphylla, the fourth rank Tilia amurensis, the second rank Fraxinus mendshurica, the sixth rank Populus davidiana, and the weakest in Ulmus davidiana. 2) Total diameter increment among seven species according to tree age classes were ranked as follows: Jugbzns mandshurica, Cornus controversa, Betula platyphylla, Tilia amurensis, Fraxinus mandshurica, Populus davidiana, and Ulmus davidiana. 3) Juglans mandshurica showed the highest diameter increment in comparison with other six species, while diameter increment in Ulmus davidiana and Populus davidiana decreased in earlier age than other species.

This paper deals with a method to predict the noise level inside metro electric cars running a single-line tunnel at the speed of 80 ㎞ per hour using ray tracing method, a kind of ray acoustics generally used for a high-frequency and air-born noise analysis. The interior of the car including a under-frame, seats, side doors, end doors, door-pockets, side panels, end panel, a roof panel and so on is modeled. And in order to describe the noise power coming inside, artificial noise sources are designated using sound transmission loss data of each section measured from simple tests and external noise level. The noise level inside the car is calculated and its properties are investigated. The results satisfy the criteria on noise level inside the car.

This paper presents the design concept and operation results of float-off for FSO (340,000 DWT Class, ELF AMENAM KPONO Project) built on the ground, without dry dock facilities. It was the first attempt to build FSO, completely, on the ground and launch it using DBU (Double Barge Unit, which was connected by rigid frame structure.) The major characteristics of FSO, which are similar to general VLCC type hull, including topside structure, weigh 51,000 metric ton. In order to have sufficient stability during the deck immersion of DBU, while passing through a minimum water plane area zone, proper trim control was completed with LMC (Load Master Computer). The major features of the monitoring system include calculation for transverse bending moment, shear force, local strength check of each connector, based on component stress, and deformation check during the load-out and float-off. Another major concern during the operation was to avoid damages at the bottom and sides of FSO, due to motion & movement after free-floating; therefore, adequate clearances between DBU and FSO were to be provided, and guide posts were installed to prevent side damage of the DBU casings. This paper also presents various measures that indecate the connector bending moment, damage stability analysis, and mooring of DBU during float off.
