Pollination is an important ecosystem service through the close interaction between plants and insects. The density and composition of pollen mediators are key factors determining the crop productivity. This study evaluated the abundance and diversity of flower-visiting insects in apple orchards according to four different landscape types (crop fields, villages, orchards, and mountains). Each landscape type with 8~9 orchards was determined with dominant environments around a selected orchard. Yellowing pan-traps were used to investigate the flower-visiting insects. Total 3,575 individuals were collected from 11 order 68 family and 111 species; 1,182 Coleopteran, 1,045 Dipteran and 1,027 Hymenopteran individuals. Diversity index was statistically higher (2.82±0.23) in mountain orchards, and lower (2.38±0.06) in crop field area. Among Hymenoptera, the Western honey bee, Apis mellifera dominated with 67% of Hymenopteran abundance, and Gametis jucunda (39%) in Coleoptera, Cetonidae. Overall abundance was highly correlated among populations of bees, flies, and beetles. The results confirmed that flower-vising insect composition differed relative to the landscape types around the orchards. Strategies for conservation and promotion of pollination are further discussed with implementing pollinator habitats.
