This study is conducted to find ways to improve distribution efficiency through the expansion of livestock products’ grading on eggs. The economic effects of livestock products’ grading on eggs is analyzed. The benefits of the operator following the implementation of the self-quality evaluation system are estimated. The data of the Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation (KAPE) are analyzed using the Equilibrium Displacement Model (EDM). The economic effect of the operation of livestock products’ grading on eggs is found to be 11.04 billion won in 2019. If the ratio of livestock products’ grading is expanded to 10~50% the economic effects are estimated to be 14.15 billion to 70.76 billion won. In addition, the cost-saving effect of the self-quality evaluation system is calculated to be about 46.8%.

This study estimates how much the value of agricultural products produced in Yeonggwang-gun, where the nuclear power plant is located, is undervalued. For the five items of Yeonggwang-gun, rice, red pepper, onion, sweet potato, and beans, we asked consumers’ willingness-to-pay using the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). As a result of the analysis, the general public evaluated the impact of nuclear power plants on the safety of agricultural products relatively lower than those from Yeongwang-gun. After providing information that there is a nuclear power plant in Yeonggwanggun, consumers’ average willingness to pay fell to -6.01%, significantly lower than -2.62% before the provision. Lastly, as of 2018, the total damage to agricultural products in Yeonggwang-gun was estimated to be 60.1 billion won, and the total damage for the last 10 years from 2009 to 2018 was measured to be 49.81 billion won.

Since 2017, the Korean government has implemented the policy that restricts the production activity of selected duck farms in the nation and compensates for some of their economic loss due to the policy. This study analyzed the changes made in market equilibrium and social welfare due to the policy under various assumptions on the duck market situations. The results indicated that the policy reduced consumer, producer, and social surpluses by KRW 12 billion, 7.5 billion, and 19.5 billion, respectively. Also, social welfare will be significantly reduced if the policy is implemented during the period of AI outbreak. In this case, consumer, producer, and social surpluses decreased by KRW 21.8 billion, 15.2 billion, and 37 billion, respectively. Therefore, the policy should only be implemented in special circumstances and limit duck production at a minimum level.

In Korea, the number of companion animals, especially dogs and cats, is rapidly increasing mainly due to the increase in the number of nuclear families and single-person households. Nevertheless, only one study has explored the future market size of pet related industries by applying compound annual growth rate to the market size in 2012. The objectives of this study are to update the information on the market size of pet related industries and to estimate the potential market size in the future using a bass diffusion model. The results of this study indicated that a total of 9.32~9.97 million dogs and cats was estimated to live in Korean households as pets in 2018. This number will increase to 11.55~16.49 million in 2027. The market size of pet related industries in Korea was estimated to 1,544 billion KRW in 2018 and 3,498 billion KRW in 2027.

Recently, as imported rice is distributed in the domestic rice market, consumer preference for imported rice is increasing. Conjoint analysis is used to identify consumer preferences for attributes of marketed rice. A ranked logit model is used to analyze consumer characteristics associated with the consumption of rice. Consumers were most likely to consider the price (40%), followed by rice variety (21%), and origin of rice (18%). While quality (18%) and taste (14%), including organic rice (7%) were least likely to be considered. Cluster analysis shows that some consumers prefer domestically produced rice to imported rice because of safety and reliability despite it’s higher price while other consumers prefer to imported rice due to its lower price. Finally, the scenario analysis fulfilled to forecast a contingent rice market share between domestically produced rice and imported rice. Imported rice with a tariff rate of 513% does not have a price competitive in Korean rice market but imported rice without tariff could have competitive for Korean consumers.
COVID-19가 TV홈쇼핑의 농협 농식품 매출에 미친 영향 분석

This study is conducted to analyze the effects and factors of COVID-19 on the agri-food sales of Nonghyup TV home shopping. For the analysis, agri-food sales data of Nonghyup TV Home Shopping from 2019 to 2020 are used. Difference in Difference(DID) analysis is used by including various factors affecting the sales of TV home shopping as control variables. The results show that there is an impact of COVID-19. It is found that the average sales per broadcast increased by about 17.79 million after COVID-19. The influence of the control variable is found to be higher in autumn and winter than in spring and on Tuesday and weekend than on Monday. As the broadcasting time increased, the sales increased and the sales of morning, afternoon, and evening broadcasts are higher than that of dawn. Additionally, the sales of live broadcasts are higher than that of reruns. On the other hand, there is a difference in the influence of the control variable depending to the item. An efficient broadcast organization strategy and operational efficiency measures of Nonghyup agri-food are presented.
