        Analgesic Effect of Blue Honeysuckle on the Rat Menopausal Pain, Primary Dysmenorrhea

        Objectives : We observed the possibilities that blue honeysuckle has favorable analgesic or refinement effects on the Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) in rats. Methods : Estradiol benzoate and oxytocin were used to induce the PD rat model. And Blue honeysuckle concentration lyophilized powders (BH) 500, 250 and 125 ㎎/㎏ and 500 ㎎/㎏ of Lonicerae Flos aqueous extract lyophilized powders (LF) were orally administered, once a day for 10 days at 30 min after each estradiol benzoate treatment. Then the changes on the body weights and gains during experimental periods, abdominal writhing response for analgesic activities, uterine weights, uterus lipid peroxidation, antioxidant defense system – glutathione contents, superoxide dismutase and catalase activities, NF-κB and COX-2 mRNA expressions were monitored with uterus histopathology including immunohistochemistry for tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS).. Results : Inflammatory and oxidative stress mediated PD signs were favorably and dose-dependently inhibited by 10 days continuous oral administration of three different dosages of BH – 500, 250 and 125 ㎎/㎏ as comparable to those of indomethacin(IND) 5 ㎎/㎏ treated rats in BH 500 ㎎/㎏ administered PD rats, and similar to those of LF 500 ㎎/㎏ in BH 125 ㎎/㎏, at least in a condition of the present PD rat model. Conclusions : The results suggest that BH has favorable analgesic and refinement activities on the estradiol benzoate and oxytocin treatment-induced PD signs through anti-inflammatory and antioxidative potentials.

        Objectives : For the purpose of developing Korean herbology, we investigated Artemisia through literature research Methods : We investigated publication and article at home and abroad Results and Conclusion : According to the this research, it may be summarized as follows. 1. Artemisia is 46 speices. among this speices, medicinal plants is 19 speices, 41 percent and esculent plants is 13 speices, 28 percent. 2. Among medicinal plants of Artemisia, using whole parts is 14 speices, using leaves is 7 speices and using seeds is 5 speices. 3. In property and flavor, warm property is 12 speices, bitter taste is 22 speices. 4. liver channel is 8 speices, it is the most part of total channels. 5. 14 speices have antipyretic action, it is the largest effects. 6. 10 speices is nontoxic, 1 speices is low toxic.e amount of herbal medicines increased, the volume of water should be increased also.

      • 韓國産(한국산) 느릅나무科(과)(Ulmaceae. 楡科(유과)) 植物(식물)에 關(관)한 本草學的(본초학적) 硏究(연구)와 部位別(부위별) 食用用途(식용용도)

        Objective : For the development of Korean herbology and Sitology Through Korean Ulmaceous plant research, the literature of the successive generations have been exhaustively investigated for this article. Method : In the field of herbology and Sitology, Internal and external Publications-Books, Online Journals, Off-line Journals-were examined. Result : In this study, we make a list about Korean Wild Plants of Ulmaceae after domestic and foreign Ulmaceae literature investigation. On the bases of this list, First, Useful plants of Ulmaceae were selected and their habitat range were analyzed. The parts of Selected plant, which can be used as a medicine, were classified according to various categories-oriental medicine name, scientific name, non-official name-, noted Ulmaceae properties such as flavor, chammels they use, effects, Chief virtue, pharmacological action. Second, ediable plants of Ulmaceae were selected and noticed their edibility purpose to each part. Korean Ulmaceae were divided into 5 classes with 18 species, Of that, 9 species were found medically usable, 10 species were found ediable. In 9 medically usable plants, valuable part of plants were classified 8 rhizodermis, 7 cortexes, 5 leaves. these plants were identified to various features, include 8 Non-toxic plant, such as flatness drug, spicy taste, Diuretic diuresis, Detumescence, Detoxification, In 10 ediable plants, valuable part of plants were classified 5 immature leaves, 4 fruits 3 cortexes, etc. These plants were used for Korean Rice cake, Rescue plant, Soup, Noodles, fruit as well. Conclusion : Korean wild Ulmaceous plant toxonomically divided into 5 classes with 18 species and 9 species used for medicine, 10 species used for food, as a result, Korean wild Ulmaceous plant were used as herbological medicine and Sitological food either.

      • 유근피 물 추출물의 난소 적출 유발 마우스 골다공증 모델에서 치료 효과 평가

        PURPOSE : The objective of this in vivo study is to observe the anti-osteoporotic activities of Ulmi Cortex (UC) water extracts METHODS : Thirty-five days after bilateral OVX surgery, UC was administered orally at dose levels of 500, 250 and 125 mg/kg once daily for 35 days, dissolved in distilled water, in a volume of 10 ml/kg, and then weight change, femur weights, BMD, bone strength (failure load), mineral contents - calcium (Ca) and inorganic phosphorus (IP) were determined, histological profiles and histomorphometrical analyses at sacrifice were conducted with serum biochemistry -osteocalcin contents and bone specific alkaline phosphatase (bALP) activities. RESULTS : these OVX-induced estrogen-deficient osteoporotic signs related to the increases of bone turnover and decreases of bone formation were significantly and dose-dependently inhibited by 35 days of continuous oral treatment of UC, at dose levels of 500, 250 and 125 mg/kg, respectively. Especially, UC 500 mg/kg showed favorable inhibitory activities against estrogen-deficient osteoporosis symptoms induced by OVX as comparable to those of RES 2.5 mg/kg. CONCLUSION : The results obtained in this study suggest that oral administrations of UC, at dose levels of 500, 250 and 125 mg/kg have clear dose-dependent favorable anti - osteoporotic activities in OVX mice, through bone mass and structures preserve activities mediated by inhibition of the bone resorption and facilitated the bone formations, as comparable to those of RES 2.5 mg/kg at least, in a condition of this experiment. It, therefore, is expected that appropriate amounts of UC will be promising as a new potent protective agents for relieving the osteoporosis in menopausal women.
