The two essential goal of grammar assessment are as follows: first, to provide information of grammar ability, and second, to pursue alignment with the curriculum. These are possible on the grounds of the assessment theory, which can renew the education field. National Achievement Assessment is the essential tool to construct the assessment theory. So, discussing the grammar assessment framework of Achievement Assessment in every respect, I`ve discussed the ideal direction of grammar assessment theory. In order to specify the principles of grammar assessment tool and to provide information on broad grammar ability, we should expand more on grammar assessment contents. This could only be possible if the grammar education and the language arts education cooperates.

Up to now the characteristics of grammar education are regarded as correctiveness or prescription. That is why grammar knowledges are acquired unconsciously to native speakers. But this thesis focus on the productive role of grammar knowledge. Let us explain through writing education. Grammar knowledges can be effective in the stage of meaning construction, not to mention revising. It is said that the ‘sentence’ writing is important especially during the writing activity. But until now, the ‘sentence’ concept lead the learners only to see the inner structure of the sentence through grammar education. In other words, the sentence concept have prevented the learners from focusing between sentence and the whole discourse. That is why grammar education have been generally influenced by the structuralist view. The past concept of sentence could be relevant in correcting the writing outcome, not in producing and structuring the contents. So I recommend the alternative sentence concept: ‘the 1 information structure = 1 sentence’. This substitute function not only the correctioning instrument but also productive instrument. So alternative sentence concept could conduct learners to use productively during all the writing procedures.

Lexical competence has been regarded basic in language ability, expecially in reading comprehension. This thesis has tried to find the way to the developmental direction in vocabulary education. In doing so, the identity of vocabulary education will be clear in Korean Education. The limitation of the past trend will be summarized by two. First, the variable `the Korean native speakers` is not specialized. The second, the vocabulary education remain at instrumental perspective. in relation to reading comprehension. Out of this critical mind, I suggest that the desirable vocabulary education contain the fundamental knowledges to accomplish the critical reading ability. Throughout the chapter 2,3,4, I propose the presuppositional points to reform vocabulary education. In chapter 2, the two perspective of instrumental and cognitive should be integrated mutually in Korean Vocabulary Education. That is because two viewpoints are the 2nd language learner oriented. In chapter 3, the two direction in Korean Vocabulary Education is specified. I`ve stressed the psychological approach to lexical competence rather than linguistic description to vocabulary. Moreover, the encyclopedic meaning to vocabulary should be given more weight rather than each individual word. In chapter 4, I`ve brought forward that the close correlation between vocabulary and grammar education, regarding the language use of native speakers. In the final chapter 5, the interrelating between critical reading and vocabulary have been discussed raising a question that even a word has various ideologic values.

Grammar education is always concentrated on knowledges. From 1992, when heuristic method was firstly offered, Korean Educationalists now have had a different viewpoint of grammatical knowledge. This status has brought out the changes of grammar assessment tool. In this respect, I assumed that the each components of assessment tool is closely connected to the viewpoint of grammar knowledge. In this thesis, I`ve made up a assumption that `text-centered principle` is now considered as the alternative in grammar assessment. Then, I`ve analysed the status and role of the text in grammar assessment item of National Achievement Assessment(2005-2008). Finally, I`ve indicated that `text-centered principle` is actually vague and doesn`t have any meanings as a alternative assessment tool.

This thesis aims to derive the characteristics of Korean Education the-ory in Korean Education academic community by reviewing the previous papers. The value of this kind of work would be beneficial in stabilizing the theory system, and in renovating the whole system of Korean Educa-tion theory. By specializing in the area of Korean Textbooks, three research prob-lems are organized as follows. research problem 1. The perspective and methodology are construct-ed based on analyzing the essential features of theory. research problem 2. The theoretical characteristics of Korean Text-book researches are analyzed by means of methodology constructed. research problem 3. The desirable directions of Korean Textbook theory are suggested by reinterpreting conclusion of the re-search problem2.
