        Water samples form the Kwang Yang Bay and the estuary of the Seomjin river were analyzed to determine water temperature, levels of pH, DO, BOD, COD, NH₃-N, NO₂-N, NO₃-N, S'', CI', PO₄''', SO₄''and S.S.. Results of water quality analysis are; a) The highest water temperature was observed in September (avg.water temp. 24.2℃) and the lowest in January(4.8℃). b) The ranges of DO, COD, and BOD at all sampling points were 6.25~8.1ppm, 0.12~4.93ppm and 1.0~4.8ppm, respectively. These values were within the range of the water quality standard for normal oceans. c) Concentrations of NH₃-N, NO₂-N and NO₃-N were 0.10~0.66ppm, 0.01~0.22ppm and 0.01~1.18ppm, respectively. These values indicate normal blackish water and oceanic water quality. d) Concentration of PO₄''' and SO₄'' showed the range of 0.1~0.297ppm and 62~3297ppm. Maximum value of PO₄''' at stations 1, 5, 7, and 8 were 0,818ppm, 0.921ppm, 0.722ppm, and 0.725ppm. These values were relatively higher than those from other sampling point. e) Concentration of S'' was 0.201~0.908ppm for this area, and shoewd wider tange in seasonal variation than location. Annual average was 0.446ppm which slightly exceeded the permissible value of 0.3ppm. f)In view of water quality, the Kwang Yang Bay can be classified as follows by area: Station 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5-where off shore effects are influential, Station 6-where sea water and fresh water are mixing, and Station 7 and 8-where fresh water is relatively influential and it is believed that organic matter is continously depositing and decaying.
