Unity as Community: Empson’s Poetic Skepticism in Seven Types of Ambiguity

This paper purports to investigate William Empson’s poetics of ambiguity represented in Seven Types of Ambiguity, framing it as “poetic skepticism.” To do so, it pays attention to a few critical occasions that he deals with certain types of ambiguity in the poems of Shakespeare, Richard Crashaw, and George Herbert via the suspension of judgment (epoché), bound to the equilibrium of hidden meanings (isosothenia). Empson’s poetic skepticism illuminates poetry’s natural predilection for the proliferation of meanings that fends off any dogmatic assertion of impetuous judgment and unitary interpretation. Empson’s rival critics have often criticized its strenuous elicitation of open-mindedness, intellectual freedom, and epistemological modesty for propagating interpretive anarchy or even semantic nihilism. As opposed to this view, the paper explores how Empson’s poetic skepticism brings about a sense of unity, while defining it as a broad, open-ended semantic community that accommodates contradictions and disjunctions entailed by poetry. Empson’s distinctive critical approach testifies that all poems are inherently associated with skepticism, as they demand the suspension of judgment for its cornucorpian substance and its resistance to dogmatism.

The Critique of Secularism: Charles Taylor’s Quest for Transcendence in A Secular Age

This article offers a broad view of Charles Taylor’s A Secular Age, delving into his counter-secularization narrative—an argument challenging the subtraction theory, which stresses the gradual decline of religion in the formation of Western secularism. Specifically, it examines Taylor’s meticulous illumination of the often-overlooked contributions of religion and its lingering presence in the intricate tapestry of the Western secularization process, which has long been associated with the civilization’s radical departure from the idea of transcendence. Additionally, this article aims to showcase the enduring appetite for transcendence in the contemporary world and the manifold manifestations of this spiritual yearning. With these in regard, the article pays attention to three pivotal facets within Taylor’s theory of secularism: 1) the marginalized position of Christianity, once a primary agent facilitating the experience of transcendence, now relegated to the periphery of Western society, whose historical recess has paved the way for the emergence of a secular age, 2) An exploration of the inherent limitations within the immanent frame, coupled with the growing dominance of the concept of human flourishing, which collectively shape the prevailing principles of the Western intellectual landscape, 3) the viability of transcendence within the (post-)modern condition, intricately intermingled with the nuanced realms of belief (religion) and unbelief (exclusive humanism), each of which indicates a unique pathway toward the pursuit of a good and fulfilling life. By unraveling the complexity of Taylor’s theory packed with hefty details, the article will question the exigencies of the imagery of transcendence in the postmodern world and the possibility of negotiation between these two opposing motives of Western intellectual history.

Yeats on Dualism and Poetic Form: The Three Case Studies

This article aims to close read “Crazy Jane Talks with the Bishop,” “An Irish Airman Foresees His Death,” and “The Man and the Echo,” demonstrating how Yeats deals with the various forms of dualism, one between the soul and the body, life and death, and the spiritual and the bodily existence as the culmination of the previous two. It argues that these poems, as the literary expression of Yeats’s dialectical mind, show the three specific patterns of his negotiation with the two antinomical entities: 1) radical monism, 2) stoic equilibrium, and 3) the skeptical reaffirmation of unity. To this end, the article will pay attention to Yeats’s formal manipulation of various poetic elements, such as line, syntax, rhythm, rhyme, and diction. This thorough formal analysis will illuminate the process that the internal dynamic of these elements embodies the poet’s solutions described above.

George Herbert’s Poetic Savagery in “The Collar”

This article explores George Herbert’s expression of poetic savagery in “The Collar” by paying attention to the poem’s specific locations of doubts, questions, and rebellion. To do so, it traces the manifestation of the “savage” Herbert at odds with the “pious” Herbert, the poet’s priestly self that has long been the core of all the fideistic readings of the poem. Despite the poet’s elicitation of the epiphanic revelation of God at the end—the moment of metanoia, designed to correct the speaker’s deviant course of action—the blasphemous presence of the savage Herbert remains intact without being resolved in such a dramatic reaffirmation of personal devotion. The article attempts a provocative, “wild” reading of “The Collar,” which focuses on a variety of its formal disjunctions and metaphorical associations to identify Herbert’s secret enthusiasm with copia—that is, the abundance of poetic inspiration and the buoyancy of individual freedom. In this regard, it argues that the whole poem devotes to embodying this copiousness of mind, through its challenging rendition of blasphemy articulated in what the article terms “poetic savagery.”

Creating Optimized Online Apparel Shopping Platform through Customer Perception

This paper is focused on the online apparel shopping platform of WeChat. A new WeChat apparel shopping platform is created that refers to hypothesis model of customer perception evaluation and test the hypothesis model with AMOS software. The purpose of creating new model lies in providing reference for the future research of WeChat apparel shopping platform and the dealers are able to make relevant adjustment and get more consumers, and then improve consumer satisfaction. From the research of the thesis, it can be found that all the factor values of EFA are bigger than 0.6 and all the reliabilities are bigger than 0.7; in aspect of statistics, the result is effective; each result of CFA are effective as well in aspect of statistics. X2/df should be less than 3, RMSEA should be less than 0.1 and GFI, AGFI, NFI, PNFI, TLI should be bigger than 0.9. As shows in Table 4, the value of X2/df=1.577 (less than3)GFI, AGFI, NFI, PNFI, TLI is close to 0.9 that is obvious in statistics. H3 is false and others are true. Among them, H1 is negative correlation and others are positive correlation. From the reverse result between perceived risk factors, it can be seen that the higher perceived risk is, the lower customer satisfaction is.

Staying Still against the Changing Motion: John Donne’s Poetic Negotiation in Metempsychosis and The Anniversaries

This paper investigates John Donne’s representation of the motif of changing motion in Metempsychosis and the two Anniversaries. Specifically, it discusses the process through which Donne attunes this motif to the other motif of permanence and constancy, each representing the governing principle of the “new” and “old” worlds, respectively. Accordingly, the paper suggests that these three works should be read as a kind of successive narrative, sharing a similar thematic focus. This way of reading is crucial in understanding the complexity of Donne’s mind, which combines fascination with the possibility of freedom evoked by the motif of changing motion and anxiety over the potential harm it may induce, such as epistemological perplexity and existential angst. In this respect, the paper shows how Donne’s narrative investment in these poems conjures the reconciliation between the two motifs in the prospect of unity, epitomized in the wished-for restoration of Elizabeth Drury’s soul.

Navigating a Wheel of Nature: Shakespeare’s Reflections on Nature in King Lear

This article investigates William Shakespeare’s figuration of the two versions of nature in King Lear—nature as an ordered cosmos and nature as autonomous, each of which loosely represents the old, medieval world’s and the emerging Enlightenment world’s views of nature. Its primary purpose is to offer a systematic understanding of the play’s complex and often ambiguous engagement with nature, as well as its depiction of the ideological hybridity of Shakespeare’s time, through meticulous character analysis, while adding one possible approach to the established discourses on the dramatist’s views of nature. Specifically, the article studies nature’s curious and often troubled correspondence with human “nature” by focusing on the reception of nature by three major characters—Lear, Edmund, and Edgar—and their shifting aspects of identity and personal transformation resulting from it. The article demonstrates how Lear and Edmund, as proxies of the old and new worlds facing harsh ideological strife, respond to the two versions of nature, thereby defining themselves as individuals. Then, it illuminates Edgar as a conciliatory character who, albeit challenged, adroitly negotiates the parameters of the other two’s views of nature, arguing that Edgar’s miraculous survival and final ascension suggest Shakespeare’s implicit emphasis on the exigencies of making a wise compromise between the two trends of nature, as epitomized in Lear’s godson. The article’s scrutiny of the idea of nature in King Lear would reveal a hybrid ideological landscape of Shakespeare’s time, consisting of motifs of stability and change, nostalgia for disenchantment, and the growing urge for disenchantment.

The Basic Study on Improving Service Mode of Online Apparel Shopping Platform Based on WeChat, China

This paper is focused on how should Wechat apparel shopping platform adjust according to customers’ behavior to cater for more customers, and to improve the consumer satisfaction. Also, this output is going to be used for hypothesis, priority. Finds the factors that influence customer behavior of WeChat apparel shopping with KJ Method, and then make questionnaire based on these factors; makes statistical analysis on the received questionnaire results that are efficient with SPSS 18.0. It can be found that there is significant influence of Security, Online retail quality, Fulfillment and Usability on customer behavior that would affect WeChat apparel shopping; however, there is no significant influence of Shopping value and Internet interactivity on customer behavior of WeChat apparel shopping; from the perspective of single factor, personal information leakage, the functions of the product, the delivery speed and easy to find the needed products and information will have significant influence on customer behavior. In the research, it submits following suggestions to improve the current WeChat apparel shopping platform: 1. The customer information base should be built; 2. Enlarge the force of management and punishment; 3. Enhance the supervision of commodity source; 4. At the same time of emphasizing on service standardization; 5. Simplify some complex steps; 6. Build the compensate policy of overtime express.

대학생들의 전공선택동기와 자격증 취득의향 간의 관계 및 자격증 활용가치 인식의 영향

본 연구는 대학생들의 전공선택 동기와 자격증 취득의향과의 관계, 그리고 자격증 취득의향에 영향을 줄 수 있는 요인을 파악하기 위하여 실행되었다. 특히 본 연구는 보건의료정보관리사 자격증을 대상으로 한 연구로 관련 자격증을 취득할 수 있는 학과의 학생들을 대상으로 하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 전공선택 동기 중 사회적 동기만 자격증 취득의향에 영향을 미쳤으며 둘째, 사회적 동기만이 자격증 활용가치 인식에 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 전공선택 동기와 자격증 취득의향 간의 관계에서 자격증 활용가치 인식은 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 본 연구는 보건의료계열 관련 학과의 경우 취업 등 사회적 동기가 전공선택이 강한 학생들의 자격증 취득의향이 높다는 것을 확인하였으며, 향후 학과는 입시 및 교육 과정에 있어 자격증 취득의 중요성과 구체적 방안 등에 대한 꾸준한 지도가 필요하다는 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. This study was conducted to understand the relationship between college students' motivation to choose a major and their intention to acquire a certificate. As a result of the study , only social motivation among the motives for choosing a major influenced the intention to obtain a certificate. Second, only social motivation influenced the perception of the value of using certificates. Third, in the relationship between the motivation for choosing a major and the intention to acquire a certificate, the perception of the value of using a certificate did not affect. Based on these research results, this study confirmed that in the case of departments related to health and medical fields, students with strong social motivation such as employment have a high willingness to obtain certificates.

UHF대역에서의 SEAMCAT을 이용한 간섭 분석기법에 관한 연구

In this paper, we proposed the modeling of UHF frequency environment in a random mountainous area with line of sight. A transmitting station is defined as wanted transmitter(Wr) and a receiving station is defined as victim receiver(Vr). These set up victim link. A interference transmitter(It) and wanted receiver(Wr) set up interference link. We compared measured data at random mountainous area with data of the result using spectrum engineering advanced monte calo analysis tool(SEAMCAT), interference simulation based on the monte-carlo method. The desired received signal strength(dRSS) of SEAMCAT had the calculated error of 70% from the measured received signal strength because there was a topographical effect. Therefore, the effect of diffraction interference was included to lessen the power of transmitter in the proposed simulation. The cause of received power error are cable loss and errors of a measuring instrument. The proposed simulation modeling in UHF frequency environment expect that is the useful study on interference analysis and reassignment of broadcasting frequency. 본 논문에서는 가시거리가 확보가 되는 임의의 산간지형에서 UHF대역의 주파수 환경의 모델링을 제안한다. UHF대역을 사용하는 송신국은 Wt(Wanted Transmitter)로 정의하고 수신국은 Vr(Victim Receiver)로 정의하여 Victim link로 설정하며, 간섭원은 It(Interference Transmitter)와 Wr (Wanted Receiver)으로 정의하여 Interference link로 설정한다. Monte-Carlo 방식을 이용하는 전파간섭분석 시뮬레이션 툴인 SEAMCAT(Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Caelo Analysis Tool)을 사용하여 모델링된 주파수 환경을 시뮬레이션 한 결과와 임의의 산간지형에서 측정한 실측데이터를 비교하였다. SEAMCAT의 dRSS(desired Received Signal Strength)계산 값은 지형에 의해 생기는 손실이 있기 때문에 UHF 대역에서 수신 전력에서 70% 오차를 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 지형에 의한 간섭회절만큼의 송신전력을 줄임으로써 실제 전파 환경과 유사한 가정을 할 수 있게 하였다. 본 논문에 제시된 UHF 주파수 환경에서의 시뮬레이션 모델링은 UHF 주파수 재배치 및 간섭분석 연구에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
