본 연구는 이익잉여금처분가능액을 조절하기 위하여 보고이익을 생산하는 과정에서 경영자는 재량적 회계선택의 유인을 가지며, 이러한 경영자의 회계선택유인은 이익잉여금처분기업과 결손금처리기업 간에 상이하게 나타날 것이라는 것을 실증하는 것을 목적으로 두 가지의 가설을 추정하고 이를 실증하였다. 가설 1은 재량발생과 Ω[=이익잉여금처분가능액(또는 처분전결손금) - 당기순이익(또는 순손실)]간에는 음(-)의 상관관계가 존재할 것이다. 가설 2는 재량발생과 Ω간의 상관관계는 이익잉여금처분기업과 결손금처리기업 간에 상이할 것이다. 이상의 가설을 실증하기 위해 본 연구에서는 1994년부터 2003년까지 10년 동안 560개의 상장제조기업을 표본기업으로 선정하였다. 가설 검증의 타당성을 높이기 위하여 재량발생의 변동에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 비재량이익, 기업규모, 및 산업더미변수를 회귀식에 추가하였다. 실증결과 가설 1과 2와 일관된 결과를 얻을 수 있었으며, 특히 결손금처리기업의 경우 보고이익을 감소시키는 방향의 회계선택을 하는 결과가 나타났다. 본 연구는 이익잉여금처분가능액을 대상으로 한 경영자의 회계선택유인이 존재할 수 있다는 것을 실증한 점에 의의가 있다. abstract: his study provide evidence that the level of total disposable amount of retained earnings affects the managerial accounting choice. In this study, The ``Ω`` is indicates that the total disposable amount of retained earnings less net income (loss). We find the ``Ω`` is negatively associated with discretionary accruals (Hypothesis 1) and the association between ``Ω`` and discretionary accruals is discriminated deficit firms from firm having the disposable amount of retained earnings (Hypothesis 2). In this results, the deficit firms decreased reported earnings. The hypotheses are tested by using a sample of 560 manufacturing firms listed in the Korean Stock Exchanges from the year of 1994 to the year of 2003. further test this hypothesis, the regression analysis considered non-discretionary earnings, size, and industry as control variables. The empirical result implies that earnings are used to achieve the target level of total disposable amount of retained earnings by the manager.
