        마틴 루터(Martin Luther, 1483-1546)의 교육사상이 교회의 통일교육에 주는 과제

        Martin Luther as a preacher, a bible translator and a theologist initiated a flame of the reformation throughout Europe. He revealed his character as a religious reformer in his sermons and multi-faceted writings. This study, however, focuses on him as an educational thinker and a reformer to suggest practical issues for Korean churches' unification education. Luther emphasized the purpose of school education to nurture citizens with refinement and rationality so that they become wise enough to advance their family and the nation. He also believed that education should be fostering ideal people who revere God and trust people, and who help each other with a broad perspective and a proper historical understanding. Although he did not leave a book on his educational philosophy, one can find his thoughts on education in his writings such as sermons, catechism and essays. In chapter 2 of this study, those opinions were discussed based on his writings. In chapter 3, a report on the current status of the unification education among Korean churches was given. Chapter 4 suggested practical issues from Luther’s ideas that can be applied to the churches' unification education. It should be notified that this paper is an introduction to Luther’s educational ideas and its implication rather than an in-depth analysis on them. The purpose of this study is to investigate an alternative way to make the unification education practical, for such an education is inactive while the people generally acknowledge the need of it. Instead of an uncritical adoption of Luther’s ideas, a practical method that suits to Korean situation was investigated. Just like Luther’s alternative ideas resolved into the existing social system opening a new era at his time, it is hoped that the unification education also penetrate into Korean churches which highly estimate the need yet unwilling to practice it.
