A simulation study was conducted to determine optimum capacity of Navy drydock facility using GASP-IV, an advanced FORTRAN-based simulation language, under demands of regular overhauls and emergency repairs by ships of an hypothetical fleet composition. Three year dock usage data was analyzed to produce probability distributions underlying drydock repair demands. The present facility size of two drydocks was simulated and was found to be somewhat short of adequate service capability, showing excessive average waiting time and average queue length. The simulation model was then modified to include an additional drydock of similar size as the other two and a year's simulation was again conducted. All repair needs were quite satisfactorily met and all docks showed very high utilization factor (0.98). This contributed to an increase in the fleet's ship availability from 0.95 to 0.99. This study illustrates the usefulness of simulation technique as a tool for analyzing policy alternatives in military long-term investment areas.

The layered multi-barrier defense situation against penetrating enemy threat is analytically modeled towards minimizing the penetration probability. Each layer is characterized by probability of detection and probability of kill given detection. The two capabilities are assumed independent. Detection in a layer, however, affects detection performance in subsequent layers. The following three models were formulated and investigated: (1) 'Model A' permits increase of detection performance in only the next barrier, (2) 'Model B' permits the increase in all subsequent barriers linearly, and (3) 'Model C' expresses the increase in an asymptotic exponential way. The best and the worst barrier combinations are determined through model exercise and model performances are compared through sensitivity analysis for the 'intensification factor.'

이연구는 회사의 판매 요원들과 본사간의 전자우평 서어비스를 제공하기위한 시스템 분석의 한 유용한 사례를 제공한다. 전자우편은 회사 본사와 원격지역에 근무하는 판촉 사원 또는 지방 사무소간에 편리한 통신 수단을 제공하고 있다. 이분석을 통하여 몇가지 접속 대안을 평가하고 또한 가장 비용 효과적인 인터페이스 구조를 결정하게 되었다. 비용 분석에서는 하드웨어와 소프트웨어 비용이 파악되었고 서로 다른 운용 환경 시나리오와 대안 접속 방법에 따른 시스템 수행 척도가 대기 행렬 모델을 이용하여 계산되었다. 따라서 이 논문은 전자우평 서어비스 제공을 위한 시스템 분석의 유용한 방법론으로 활용될 수 있다. This paper presents as analysis of three alternative user connection modes for implementing e-mail (QuickMail) service to facilitate sales force interaction with their main office. E-mail services constitutes a convenient way of communication between remotely located field offices or sales representatives and their main headquarters office. This analysis first evaluates three alternative access modes and then determines operating scenarios and alternative connection modes are obtained using queueing models. thus. this paper provides a useful methodology for analyzing e-mail connection requirements.

프랑스가 제안하는 효율적인 기술이전계획은 점진적인 과정이다. 시작단계에서는 프랑스에서 제공하는 잠수함의 정비유지에만 제한 적용되며, 정비 엔지니어와 기술자들이 계획된 방법으로 잠수함의 개념과 기술에 관한 지식을 획득할수 있을 것이다. 목표는 현지 조선소가 잠수함의 창정비(overhaul)를 능숙히 수행할 수 있도록 하는 것이다. 또한 기술이전은 자국내 잠수함 건조의 경우 3단계에 걸쳐 수행된다(p.39 참조)
